18 weeks pregnant, right ovary cramping due to cyst, doctor said it was probably rupturing. Is that ok?

At my 8 week scan the doctor found a cyst on my right ovary. They said it was perfectly normal and would aid the pregnancy until the baby was able to get its nutrients from the placenta. They also said that it would most likely go away on its own but that they would keep a close eye on it in case they needed to remove it. My ovary cramped on and off for a few weeks and went away around 10 weeks. At 11 weeks the pain returned and I called the doctor. They said it was probably dissolving and to take it easy for a few days. Now, for the past week or so my ovary has been cramping on and off again. Today it hurts VERY badly. It is a throbbing feeling with sharp, stabbing pains ever so often. Worried, I went to the doctor this morning and was pretty much treated like an idiot. The doctor felt of my stomach and checked my cervix, but that was it! She told me that the pain I was experiencing was probably from the cyst rupturing and that it was perfectly fine. She didn't do a scan to look at my ovary or anything. She tested me for a UTI, but that came up negative. So this was about 5 hours ago and I am still in a lot of pain. From everything I've ever read, I thought that if a cyst ruptured while you were pregnant it could cause harm to the fetus. Am I not right in thinking this? Should I go to another doctor for a second opinion? The only other place that I could go to now would be the ER and I know they would look at my ovary there. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if it get's worse go to the ER.Good Luck!!!

sorry to know abt all that...i think u should talk to ur doc in detail! go in for a second opinion too if u need to.GD

hi,

I am currently 9weeks pregnant, and I also have two cyst on my right ovary, each measuring 4 and 5cm, which are bigger than my baby. Last Sunday I experience painful pain in my right ovary to the point I was rush to the emergency room.. They did an ultrasound at the hospital and found that the two cyst have rupture and the fluid that lick out of the cyst is causing my pain. They also check the baby was doing fine, but they don't know what cause the cyst to rupture, the nurse injected me with some pain killer and also prescribe some pain killer too. There nothing they can do about the pain, I just need to rest until my body reabsort the fluid. Normally when the cyst rupture their no harm to the baby, most causing pain to the mother. But I will have a doctor this wednesday to check on the baby and the cyst. My best advice for you is to bed rest for a couple of day, and if the pain is so bad you can ask your doctor some pain killer that are safe to using during pregnancy. because that help me through my painful moment. if your cyst is rupture like my don't wake too much it will cause more pain, try eating liquid food rather than solid. Sorry for the long post hope everything go fine with you and your baby. Good Luck.

I have had ovarian cysts too and from what I know, it doesn't cause any harm to the baby if it ruptures. If you have any bleeding, see the doctor again to make sure it's not coming from your uterus and if you're not happy with what the doctors are telling you just be persistent and demand answers. They don't care nearly as much about the problem as you do!
