Palin on The Bush Doctrine?

I see a lot of people saying Palin "messed up" on this question and she didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was...

Mr. Gibson asked "do you agree with the Bush Doctrine"
She asked "in what respect" (a perfectly legitimate question)
Instead of answering Mr. Gibson took it as an opportunity to test Palin and asked for her interpretation of the Bush Doctrine.

Here is the Bush Doctrine in a nutshell (thanks to Wikipedia):
The phrase initially described the policy that the United States had the right to treat countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups as terrorists themselves, which was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan. Later it came to include additional elements, including the controversial policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that may or may not have represented a threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate (used to justify the invasion of Iraq), a policy of supporting democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism, and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.

Did her answer not accurately describe the initial purpose of the Bush Doctrine? It gave us the right to go after terrorists, which is what she said. Could someone explain to me how she "messed up?" Mr. Gibson then explained the second part of the Bush Doctrine, which expanded upon the initial purpose, as if Palin didn't know what she was saying. Could someone explain how her answer was not a legitimate answer to his question?

See Krauthammer's article (below), in which he says there are four different versions of the Bush Doctrine.

Gibson may not have been versed on what (Krauthammer says) is the most current version, but what I find alarming is that Palin was clearly not aware of ANY version.

As scary as that is, what's scarier is that half of the country STILL wants her to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Wow.

You are making the Bush Doctrine sound like it has a bunch of complexities, but it is fairly simple as is the Bush administration. If she wanted to break it apart she could have said " I like the noble cause of protecting thy neighbor, but to refuse diplomacy first should be questioned" Instead she was fishing for Gibson to explain what the Bush doctrine was.

Sorry, she bombed that one.

She seemed as surprised that Bush had a doctrine as Bush was surprised that he had a timber company.

She was double-thinking her answers. It was obvious.

you forgot the part at first when she said it was bush's outlook on what the world should be...
next time print the whole transcript not just the part that suits you

Face it, she didn't know what it is. The Governor is an impressive person and may know how to balance a state's budget but she did miss it. She is a heartbeat away from potentially the oldest president in our history who is dealing with a deadly form of cancer. As the Vice Presidential candidate, especially under these circumstances, she needs to know this stuff. To borrow from the the Republican advertisement "not ready to lead." If Obama had responded this way to the question the Republicans would have been all over him. One irony in this is that the Bush Doctrine is the reason Palin's son is going off to Iraq.

Because she was careful enough to ask for a clarification the left thinks it proves she is stupid. Honestly I think it proves how smart she is. Only a far left nut root would have assumed the question was about Bush's war plans. But an intelligent person knew without asking specifically which of hundreds of potential "Doctrines" there was no way to know what the presenter was asking.

That clarification as you pointed out was reasonable, but the hesitation mean she is unready for the white house according to the far left dogma. As far as they are concerned the only way Palin could have given a correct answer is if she started foaming at the mouth screaming "Bush is Hitler! Bush is Hitler!". But since Palin is not suffering from BDS (Bush derangement syndrome) and does not sit around reading the daily kos all day then any thing they can claim to be a weakness they try to exploit.

Personally I see the fact Gibson needed clarification later in the question actually shows how ignorant he is.

I think Palin did well, of course the haters will always say otherwise.
