Should Makhaya Ntini be dropped from the SA side..?

Ive always been a fan of Ntini, and quietly hoped he would have a decent tour of England.

BUT after watching him for around 2 months now, he looks a shadow of his former self.

His tour of England was dreadful by his standards
Bowling average 37 in the test series (14 wickets) Aided by his 7fer at The Oval
Bowling average 130 in the ODI series (1 wicket and an Economy rate of 5.68)

Is Ntini a liability to the South African squad now?
Will the South African selectors have the guts to drop him considering his popularity in SA?

So is it just one bad tour for Ntini or is he not the player he once was?

Your thoughts..?

Makhaya Ntini has been in a decline for a long while now after hitting his peak in 2006 it has been all downhill less and less wickets conceding more runs which led to him being dropped on several occasions from the odi team and quite frankly he did nothing to earn a place back in the team

It looks like SA won't drop him from the test team although I think he should be dropped because he has been a weak link in our bowling not just on the England tour as a lot of bowlers didn't fair well in the odis but from the world cup last year Ntini has had problems he doesn't look very lethal with the new ball and very often concedes way to many runs in both forms of the game

He is no were near where he was but for what ever reason he has been carried in both teams which should never have been done at the moment our bowling line up isn't too experienced but we have a lot better fast bowling options to replace him
I have for a long while thought he should be replaced sent back to lower levels to see if he can get back to his best but it may be that he is past his best and won't get back to it he did seem to be back in form in the test series against India then towards the latter stage of the ipl but if he couldn't perform in England on wickets that were sometimes bowler friendly he should be dropped now he has had plenty of chances

You can't drop a player for having ONE bad tour, especially when he has so many international wickets under his belt. If he does poorly again in his next series, however, then maybe his place should be considered.

Every player in any sport will have a poor run of form at some point.

I don't think he should be dropped..Coz every player faces ups and downs in his cricketing career...This is just a bad phase in his cricketing career which Ntini is going through...He was great in IPL...
So,I don't think he should be dropped from the SA side for a bad performance in just one series!!

Yes he should be dropped, but remember the minimum amount of coloured players in the SA side, find me a bowler who is coloured and substantially better than Ntini, and he will probabally make the side.

He's still one of the best in South African bowling.

They should keep him. He'll be worth the magic to see from again.

Hope that answers.

He probably just needs a rest from cricket. A bit of time out works wonders when players get into such a rut and it would also give another bowler a chance to show what he can do.

he still has some years left in him. he is south africa's most accurate bowler there despite losing some speed.

if his sh*t then No
if his good then yes

i agree with you his not the same bowler he once was

who would replace him?

.

no

I am closely watching South Africa's ODI bowling, which is in a big mess. There is really no strike bowler. In this situation, Makhaya still appears to be an option. Who is really bowling well ? Let us see the performance in the last one year. I will put them in the order of performance, the best at 1.

1) Charl Langeveldt: 11 matches, bowled 560 balls, conceded 449 runs, took 19 wickets, My rating 59.94 marks.
2) Morne Morkel: 7 matches, bowled 296 balls, conceded 260 runs, took 9 wickets, My rating 55.93 marks.
3) Makhaya Ntini: 10 matches, bowled 498 balls, conceded 495 runs, took 15 wickets, My rating 45.85 marks.
4) Andre Nel: 14 matches, bowled 611 balls, conceded 476 runs, took 17 wickets, My rating 42.37 marks.
5) Johannes A Morkel: 14 matches, bowled 606 balls, conceded 496 runs, took 19 wickets, My rating 41.07 marks.
6) Dale Steyn: 11 matches, bowled 503 balls, conceded 456 runs, took 9 wickets, My rating 39.09 marks.
7) Shaun Pollock: 13 matches, bowled 750 balls, conceded 381 runs, took 10 wickets, My rating 37.29 marks.
8) Johan Botha: 19 matches, bowled 834 balls, conceded 636 runs, took 16 wickets, My rating 34.34 marks.
9) Paul Harris: 3 matches, bowled 180 balls, conceded 83 runs, took 3 wickets, My rating 34.3 marks.
10) Jacques Kallis: 18 matches, bowled 312 balls, conceded 292 runs, took 10 wickets, My rating 22.02 marks.
11) Vernon Philander: 2 matches, bowled 78 balls, conceded 80 runs, took 0 wickets, My rating 7.1 marks.
12) Jean Paul Duminy: 18 matches, bowled 78 balls, conceded 76 runs, took 1 wicket, My rating 1.77 marks.
13) Alviro N Petersen: 3 matches, bowled 6 balls, conceded 7 runs, took 0 wickets, My rating 0.1 marks.

Bowlers with over 50 marks are only 2. In the remaining bowlers, Makhaya is the best. Let him play.

He's just going through a slump in form. And he did start to look like the old Ntini when he reverted to his traditional run-up, delivering the ball from wide in the crease.
So his performances may only now be sporadic. He's still better than that great lollopping ninny Harmison, who produces a good performance once in a blue moon. I'm really ecstatic that that over-rated Geordie bottler is back in the England side.

Makhaya Ntini deserves to be given some respect. He has been a loyal servant to South African cricket for ten years. He may no longer be the leader of the pack, but he still has a useful role to play for the Proteas. The rest of the pace attack (Nel apart) are raw and inexperienced. They will benefit immensely from Ntini's knowledge.

So no, I don't consider Ntini a liability. I don't think he should be dropped.

But I do agree that he is not the player he was. He just needs to be used more wisely by South Africa, as the third seamer rather than as a spearhead. Morkel and Steyn can fulfill that role.

No, I don't think he should be drop. I don't mean to insult you Kookee, or your proud Pom countrymen, but I think the English mentality is too quick to punish a player. Ntini has been consistent. He probably will not be the spearhead anymore, but that is no problem. He can maybe become the third seamer behind Morkel and Steyn. It's just that people are so used to seeing him as the lead bowler, that a few bad series, and his head is being called for.
Being one of the best for a long time merits some slack. Besides, he is probably the best colored player in South Africa, and certainly the best black bowler. Men like Monde Zondeki have proved to be failures, so they should continue to stick with Ntini, and support him for maybe another few series. However, if he is taken apart in Australia, I see no reason why the Saffer selectors shouldn't start shopping about for a replacement.
