Do you need to have proof that you are pregnant to apply for Medicaid?

Last week I woke up feeling sick every morning and my breast were very sore. Last Friday I had taken a pregnancy test that I bought from the Dollar General and it came out positive. The next day I took another test from Rite Aid and that also came out positive. I have no insurance and not a lot of money. I just wanted to know if I need proof for Medicaid will I need a prenancy test from a doctor or can I just give a home pregnancy test to them?

Go ahead and apply without the proof. When you go to apply they will give you a list of documentation they will need to process your application. They will probably ask for proof of identity, income, shelter, proof of your pregnancy and possibly a few other things. While you are there, you can ask you worker where you can go in your area to get a free pregnancy test done so you can give them the proof. In my state, planned parenthood and my city's public health dept charge you to do a pregnancy test so asking your worker for resources is a better idea than showing up and hoping the place you go does free pregnancy tests.

depends on your state. In my state you do not have to because they can verify it by the doctor's bills that are submitted. Basically saying that if your doctor submits a bill that states you are not pregnant, or the bills are not for pre natal care you have committed a crime because you filled out the application stating you were pregnant, and signed saying the information was true. They can charge you back for all the bills and make you in-eligible.

So here is my advice. Even if your state does not require proof, find out how much a blood test is, and get one. Verify for yourself that you are pregnant first through blood, then go ahead and apply. if your state requires proof, the blood test will work, and if they don't require proof then you at least know for sure that you are filling out correct information.

Yes you will need proof. If you go to the health department, they will do a pregnancy test for free, and then they will fill out all the proper paperwork, and will even send your information to the medicaid employees if you ask. All you have to do to get the pregnancy "proof" is bring in proof of income and pee in a cup. That's it. Good luck.

From my experience, especially if you ONLY qualify for during the pregnancy, you will need proof of pregnancy from a doctor. Usually a form they fill in the blank with your name and estimated due date.

I am on medical assistance for my pregnancy and 6 weeks post-partum only because I make too much money otherwise to qualify...I make $9.50/hr with 1 child.

I even went to one of those "free" clinics that do a urine test.. but that wasnt good enough for Medicaid.. I had to get something from a Dr's office stating that I was pregnant.

Call an OB/GYN clinic and tell them that you need proof of pregnancy for the medical card.. they will know what to do.

You don't need to proof to apply. If you qualify by income, they will send you to a doctor to have a pregnancy test. That doctor will either send a letter to them or give it to you to take or send in. At least, that's what I had to do. Hope this helps!

Yes. When I was pregnant with my 1st I was only 18 and I didn't have insurance either. All you do is go to the health department, or planned parenthood and they will help you with everything. Congratulations! I hope everything works out for you.

Yes in order to qualify for a medical card based on pregnancy you need proof of pregnancy which must be a note from a Dr's office stating that you are pregnant, your due date and the name of the Dr/Clinic you go to for care.

yes all you need to do is go to a free clinic like planned parenthood and they test for free and will give you the paper that states you are pregnant. that is all if you dont have one in your area look up the health department

Yes you need proof.Just look for a place that offers free pregnancy test.They will give you a letter.The letter might have to state when the baby is due also.Be safe than sorry and ask them to include it on the letter.

No they will probably ask you for the doctors name to verify this . Call them and ask them.

Yes. You need proof from a doc. But most Dr offices will let you do your first appointment without paying cuz you are going to get medcaid and you need proof to do that. Good luck!

i agree with dawn. i had to have proof from a doctors office or clinic (which is just a paper stating you are pregnant). i got one done at planned parenthood for free.

I had medicaid when I was pregnant with my first child 14 years ago. back then (in the dark ages) you needed to bring documentation of the pregnancy from a Dr or a clinic.

Go to your nearest health department they will give you a test..And if you come up pregnant there then they can give you a note saying your pregnant then you go and apply for Medicaid..Okay Good Luck.!!!

Yes you will and depending of the case worker she/he will give you the state approved form to take to the doctor.

You have to have proof, but you can go to the health department and get a free test done. Just ask them to give you a proof of pregnancy and that should be fine. I just got through filling out medicaid here in alabama. You also will need your birth certificate, ss card, driver's license, and check stubs for atleast the month that it is. We have a thing called Best Start in Alabama... and that's the stuff they told me to bring when they helped me fill everything out. I don't know where you live, so it may be a little different. I agree with above as well, WIC is a good program to get into as well.. it helps with some of the things you will need for a healthy pregnancy, and later will even cover formula for your baby. You can get approved the same day you apply. You also will need your proof of pregnancy for them as well! Oh and Medicaid is retroactive, so if you do end up going to a real doctor to get your testing done, medicaid will cover that visit once you get approved. Any visit involving your pregnancy and later your child, will be covered retroactively. Good luck!

Hello, I went through the same situation in january of this year...
yes you have to provide proof. but its not as difficult as some might think. all you have to do is go to the health department. they will have you fill out paperwork and pee in a cup. the nurse on duty will do a pregnancy test and if it comes back positive they will start the paperwork for you to get insurance. then they will send you to the family independence agency where they will set you up with a case worker. they will give you the rest of the information you will need.
Don't stress too much about it. the people at the health department are very good at what they do, that's what they are there for and they are very helpful with everything. the FIA also is very good at what they do and you may be eligible for extra assistance too.
Another good thing to check out is WIC. the women infant and children program gives you coupons for milk, eggs, cereal, peanut butter, cheese, and beans each month to help you eat well while you are pregnant.
