Can i claim disability for my child who is parcially blind and deaf?

since the age of 2 my daughter has had trouble with her sight and hearing.
At the beginning of the year she underwent some tests to see weather she needed an earring aid,the hospital found that she didn't have an eardrum in her right ear so an earring aid would not help her.
we also have had problems with her eyesight,her prescription is very high and the hospital have now told us that her eyes are not gonna get any better and that patching and further appointments will do any good so they have discharged her but will need her glasses checking in june 09.
Now i have been told by a number of people that i should be able to claim disability for her but am unsure as what to do.

you may be able to claim a carers allowance but if the disability for want of a better word is not considered bad enough again for want of a better word I guess under the assumption that your daughter may or may not require special help directly from yourself which makes you unable to work a full time job then yes i would have thought a carers allowance would be in order but you know what these government people are like you'll probably have to qualify by some way or mean that makes you and your daughter worse off than you are now

There are several options and possibilities. Your daughter's doctor should be able to point you in the right direction. Many hospitals have a patient care coordinator or an ombudsman who can assist you with such issues. If not, ask for a referral to the social service department.

If in the US, you can contact the Social Security Administration or your state Medicaid administrator. Many states have a bureau for children with medical disabilities. A social service professional usually can "grease the skids" to speed up the referral process. Best wishes.

contact the Department of work and pensions, there is a disability premium for children, you may also be able to get Attendance Allowance. You could ask your health visitor, but she may not know...so phone social services or the d.w.p.
