My man gave me herpes hes just having his first outbreak... What are the long term affects...?

So.. I have been tested religiously... Before my man and I got together i got tested literally after we first met before we had sex... 4 weeks later i got my results...all negative... 2 weeks later I got a sore...only leading me to the doctors...diagnosed herpes...ok..My dr.told me herpes shows up 2 weeks of coming in contact...so Its obvious who I got it from we had now been together 7weeks... I never told him I got it from him... We both just went with it.. he was ok..the doctor said he can go up to 8 months without any signs...well he had his first outbreak last week 7 months later... Now... I told him my facts..he hasnt put it together that it didnt come from me...I kinda want him to know he gave it to me...so, he dont hold it on me...but, that is least of my concerns as he is now just joining me in suppressive therapy... but, is there any long term affects of us both having this...aids etc??? What happens in the long run.. We are staying together but, now what>>>

I did get the full std check that included and it came up clean... It wasnt til the breakout that I was lead to the dr for the diagnoses... the doctor said it shows up quicker in women than it does in men... I am with the same man that which i do believe I got it from...and I intend to be with only him...we are married now..

You are badly in need of some reliable information about this disease. First, let me strongly recommend that you spend some time browsing around my favorite herpes website. This charity was a lifesaver for me when I was first diagnosed. It's easy to read, and very reliable - unlike a lot of the info you've gotten so far, both on Y!A and from your doctor.

First, you should know that there is no timeline for herpes symptoms showing up. Your doctor was wrong about that. They can show up days, weeks, months or even years after you were first infected. And genital herpes is not usually included in a standard STD panel. So unless you were previously tested for herpes specifically, you really can't know when you got it. In fact, if you think about it, your doctor gave you two different answers - he said it shows up within 2 weeks OR it takes eight months. Which is true? Neither. The timeline is different for different people.

The good news - there are absolutely no ill effects from having herpes, aside from a slightly increased chance of catching other STDs because you'll sometimes have open sores. But most people who have herpes have symptoms so mild that they don't even know that they have it. It does not cause other diseases. It does not affect your ability to get pregnant. It doesn't cause cancer or death. The ONLY thing that it does is cause non-scarring sores - and for most people it doesn't even do that.

The hardest part about having herpes - and I know because I've had it for 10+ years now - is telling future boyfriends about your herpes. You'll want to tell them, because you care about them and you want to make sure that you don't surprise them by giving it to them. It's really really hard to tell - but its the best way. Otherwise, they'll be angry (and rightfully so) that you decieved them AND gave them a disease.

You'll also want to understand how herpes is spread. Condoms don't protect against it, and while suppressive therapy helps, you can still spread it even when you don't have symptoms. Not always, but sometimes. When / if you get another BF, it will be very very important that you never ever have sex when you have an outbreak or you will almost certainly give it to your partner.

I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I wish that there was more I could do. Please do learn all you can about herpes. The more you learn, the better you feel about it. Truly.

EDIT: I'm afraid that your doctor is wrong about women experiencing herpes differently than men, too. Women don't show symptoms any faster or slower than men. You really need to get a new doctor. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry to hear you have it. Herpes can't be cured. The only thing you can do is take medication for it and that's about it. That's a bummer ...

in the long run the virus will more mild. if you having outbreak and having sex with someone had hiv then you're at risk from hiv infection. bc your skin expose to hiv.

Herpes is a life-long disease, and it can cause very severe problems if not treated appropriately. It can even cause something called Herpes encephalitis, which is rare, but fatal if not treated.
It is also very reasonable to think that if you have herpes you may have something else. If you have one STD, you have a pretty good risk of having more.
The type of mindset that allows you to contract a STD, and "just go with it", is exactly what leads to the spread of HIV. I'm saying this, not to be mean, but hopefully to help you realize that you are taking a VERY real risk that will already have a long-term affect on you.

Good luck!

I was wondering, you said you were tested religioiusly, but did you know that herpes is usually NOT included in standard STD testing? Its usually only if asked for.
About long term effects, really there is nothing more. Its just like cold sores basically except for its "down there". Some answers say how serious it can be if left untreated...that's just someone that doesn't know. You could have outbreaks once in awhile, usually brought on by stress or lack of sleep, usually the first is the worst. You don't have to take meds if you don't want to. You could take them when you start to feel an outbreak or you could take them to suppress it so there is less chance to pass it.
