Since people are so promiscuous today, should people be tested before they marry by law? |
Tested for STDs and AIDS that is. I'm asking if we should make it legal for those about to be married. It is already in some countries. Not by law, but it's definitely a good idea to know what you are getting into if you're marrying someone who's had more than one partner. I'm not a fan of making things like that mandatory - I like having as much freedom as possible. But encouraging people to do so and making it affordable is definitely a good idea. Well, AIDS and STDs are certainly a public concern. But once a couple marries, they are - theorhetically - no longer a 'public' concern. Their sexual practices are contained, and if either is infected, the threat risk is kept at one. They should get tested a hell of a lot sooner than the day before they go up the aisle. They should get tested when they start having a relationship together - I was tested in the first few weeks of my relationship with my boyfriend, and he had had a check-up shortly before we started sleeping together. How would this stop the spread of STD's? I think in some places it's required by their church! No, I don't think the government should be involved in our personal lives like that. It also takes away from personal responsibility. People should be responsible for their own decisions, even if it effects their health negatively. Some groups, as Jehovah麓s Witnesses, practise chastity before marriage and are faithful towards their partners. I agree with Munchkin that people should be tested when they start new relationships. I don't think it's something that should be legally required before marrying, no. Testing is supposed to stop the spread of diseases. Most people have had sex before they marry so testing would serve no purpose. While I empathize with your motives, I believe this action goes to far and infringes on an individuals liberty regardless of the potential benefits. Marriage has a 50% failure rate and fewer people are getting married. No. What difference does it have if they're married or not? They've probably already been "with" each other before they got married. What difference does it make? You can't force someone it have a blood test. It's illegal. i would test with each new partner. if so, marriages will drop by half yes. |
