Why is there blood in my kittens stole?

My husband and I got a flea infested kitten from an ad we read in the paper. Their house was awful. I picked off all the fleas that night (Saturday) We are taking her to the vet today to get a Feline Aids and leukemia test. I have been watching her stoles for worms and nothing so far. Then this morning she had diarrhea and dark red blood. Is this a sign of worms? If they deworm her will that get rid of them now or does it take a few weeks? She is 8 wks and on solids.

It could be worms, or gastroenteritis or the sign of a virus. Many things really, which is why she needs a thorough check over, and flea treatment.

When she is wormed, intestinal worms should be dead within 24 hours and flushed out within about 48 hours, however if they've damaged their gut the blood may take a while to clear up, the vet will give you meds for this.

As for parasites, I don't think they cause bloody stools. I don't know what it is but be sure to describe it to your vet. They will know what to do.

It is a sign of worms but if her vet checked her out thoroughly, her (your) problems should be a thing of the past in a few days not weeks.
