Is it illegal for students to grade tests?

I am currently in Spanish 2 and I have a major problem with my teacher. A couple days ago my friends and I were searching for our papers for our notebook and were comparing grades at the same time. One major test was compared and at that point it was fairly obvious she was grading to her own favor. One of my friends missed 8 and recieved an 85...one of my other friends (one friend of the teacher as well) missed 11 and got a 93! I was mad of course and tried to get down to the bottom of it all. In figuring out one of the student aids were grading all of these tests I had also found out that she never double checked them either. This is one of the many quarrels I have had with this teacher. Some involving not letting me study for tests in other classes while I was forced to watch "The Ultimate Gift" in class, which has nothing to do with Spanish, also making coloring projects test grades and making participation grades tests as well. In one occurance she curved the grade 73 points and my friend thats sits behind me still managed to get a 45..can someone help me?

I would love to drop the class for another Spanish teacher as one of you put it but we are so far behind with all these lovely little coloring projects I would flunk the class if I got into an online course or something of the sort

Your parent should go to school and speak to the departmental chairperson or to the principal with the complaints The fact that you teacher insists that you do not do other work such as studying for a test in her class is not a valid complaint./

I would confront the teacher first with support of the other students concerning the grades. As for the movie watching there really isn't anything you can do except grin and bear it. The grade thing sounds a little fishy. If your teacher doesn't do anything, I would go to your grade level administrator or vice principal about it, or the department head.

No it is not illegal for students to grade tests, that is what TA's are for, but if you feel that your teacher is being unfair and other people agree with you, you can take your complaints to the principle of the school. However I would discuss the problem with your teacher first and show the tests to her, it just could have been a mistake.

1. Yes, students are allowed to grade tests. It is not illegal, and is encouraged with 'Teacher Assistant' students.

2. I would guess that the questions are weighted differently, or the project points. Ask your teacher about how they are weighted, or why you get more points taken off for certain questions.

It's not illegal for students to HELP grade tests. Provided that the teacher goes back to make sure they are correct but even teachers make mistakes. The teacher should also be 100% sure that the students that graded them were trustworthy and that they were all being graded the exact same way.

I can help you by telling you authority figures will never care about the opinions/feelings of a teenager.

That teacher is sounds corrupt from what I've seen. If you can't get out of her class by being with another teacher, then I'd suggest kissing up to her and doing what she wants. Gotta do what ya gotta do to succeed.

depends on the kind of test. if it is just a test your teacher gives in class for review its ok. but standardized tests or anything of the sort is strictly for teachers only

It's obvious that your teacher and your school's grading system has a few problems, but it's more obvious that these problems won't be resolved by further confrontation with that teacher. Go see someone of higher rank than that teacher, like an administrator (not a counselor). I tell you to do this because it's obvious that the school's/teacher's actions are wrong, or else I wouldn't tell you to do this. However in the case of the teacher not wanting you to do other class work during a movie, I can say that many teachers would do the same thing. They want to feel like they're respected and that their class is valued. The biggest wrong here is probably the allowing of a student aid to grade her tests.
