11 week old kitten. What other shots does he need besides these....?

My kitten is 11 weeks old. He is strictly an indoor cat, we have another cat but he is also strictly indoor. We live on the third story of an apartment so he never never never goes outside and neither does the other. He has been tested for feline AIDS and leukemia. He has one deworming treatment. When he was 10 weeks (last week) he got his distempter/FVRCP. Besides rabies at 16 weeks, what else is crucial for him. Does he need one more FVRCP or two? Don't have a lot of money to spend on luxurious vaccinations and "things". We have a pet van that comes to our city to do discounted pet services and its coming next weekend so I'm thinking about getting him on some worm/flea prevention while I'm there. Suggestions? Thanks :):)

Some vets do 2 sets of kitten shots, others do 3. It's really up to your discretion though. Rabies vaccines are done once at 16 weeks, then again a year later, after that, it's once every 3 years. If you plan on letting him go outside at any time (if you move for instance) you'll want to get both of your cats vaccinated for Feline Leukemia at least 2 weeks before letting them go out. Never get a vaccine for FIV though. The vaccine hasn't been proven effective and he'll always show up as positive after he gets it. That means that if he does run away and is taken to a shelter, there's a good chance he'll be put down because he'll come up positive.

I'd also suggest getting micro chips for both of your cats if you haven't yet. It's an extra $50 for registration up to 5 pets to your address in addition to the cost of the injection but it's more than worth the cost if one of them runs away.

Please do invest in flea treatment and extra dewormings though. If you need to cut back on costs, ask for a large dog dose of Advantage along with a syringe and a small bottle to keep the extra liquid in. Give 0.4 mL for under 9 lbs and 0.8 mL for over 9 lbs. It's exactly the same as the cat treatment and keeping your home flea free prevents heartworms. When it comes to deworming, the CDC recommends that cats be dewormed 2 times a year (each dose in given in halves, 1st immediately, 2nd 2 weeks later). If you have young children or if you ever have young children over, it's recommended that the deworming is increased to 4 times a year.

Also, if he hasn't been neutered yet, he's old enough to get that done as long as he's over 2 lbs. Some vets are skittish about early sterilization but if you ask the people at the mobile vet service, they will probably have a list of low cost spay/neuter clinics. The sooner you get it done, the less likely that he'll display behaviors of sexual maturity such as wanting to wander or marking.

Ask your vet about the "All In One" vaccine. Some vets have a two year shot available, but most will have the one year version.

If money is tight, talk to your local Animal Shelter and ask them if they have special price days there, or could provide coupons for discounts with local vets.

Most average around $45 for the All in One shot.
