What are the odds of a teenage girl in southern california getting AIDS?

I know the risk is higher in different parts of the country, so I'm wondering is my friend more or less at risk because she's in SoCal? She's slept around, and been raped, and she didn't know who it was so you never know. But how at risk is she?
I'm probably going to take her to get tested this weekend I'd just like to know.

I know i meant to say HIV i just said the wrong thing. She has slept with a lot of people, and doesn't know their sexual history, or even who a few of them are. That's why I was wondering.

I don't live in Cal-but as a former HIV/AIDS nurse, the odds can be high. It doens't matter where you live, what background you have, how much money you/your family has....you can get it. You seem like a good friend and are worried about your friend's health but she has to want to change her life to keep herself safe. Educate your friend on HIV with some counselor(that is a trained professional in HIV) and hope it sinks in. I was an HIV/AIDS nurse in a prison and was in charge of 240 inmates that had either HIV or AIDS and I can tell you first hand that if she saw what I saw and how this disease can affect the body(not just physically but mentally, emotionally, psychologically) she would change her ways. Get her tested and if she is negative, she needs to slow her roll before she winds up not so lucky the next time.

Geography has very little to do with risk, unless you are talking about Africa, where people believe they can be cured of HIV by having sex with a virgin.
The things that put you at risk are behaviors. HIV can be transmitted by unprotected anal, vaginal, or oral sex with someone who is infected, sharing needles for drug use with someone who is infected, or it can be transmitted from a woman to her child at birth or during breastfeeding. Rape, sex with needle users, and having multiple sexual partners increase the risk that you would have sexual contact with someone who is infected. (Think about it this way: If one person has multiple partners, chances are good that those multiple partners have multiple partners of their own.) Another thing to consider is that as far as sexual transmission goes, infected men pass the virus on to women or other men more frequently than infected women pass the virus on to men. Also, since you can pass the virus on to others the day after you were infected, but symptoms may not show up for years, and it could take some time for it to show up on tests, it is very possible for someone to infect others before they themselves know they are infected.

Bottom line: High risk. Your friend should get tested for ALL STDs, including HIV. Most people who are HIV+ would test positive within 3 months, but in very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive.

Let's start with a little education you can't transmit AIDS you can transmit HIV. AIDS is a by product of HIV. The actual risk in general is 1 in 2000. If the person actually has HIV then it's 1 in 1000. The chances that someone she slept with had HIV is 1 in 200,000. HIV isn't really as prevalent in the US as it is if you were to go to places like Africa.

Even if she had unprotected sex once, she has been at risk, the more partners the greater the risk. Have her get tested. If you need to find a clinic go to www/hivtest.org and you'll find all the testing sites in your area.
