Are Civil Service Tests for entry-level positions difficult?

I'm taking a semester off from college to figure out what it is I really want to do, and I am taking a look at the Pennsylvania State Civil Service Commission. All of the jobs require that you pass the civil service test, and I'm just curious if anyone knows how difficult they are? I want to apply for a social services aid, and the test summary says I will be tested on physical care, working with people, case management, and first aid. How specific are the questions? Are they basic knowledge, or do I need to prepare? This is entry-level, and I only need a GED for the position.

Kayla: I took and passed the civil service test for the post office. I wouldn't say it was a breeze but I was able to score high enough that I got hired. As I recall, you need to pay close attention to how they word the questions. The time they give you to do the test seemed adequate. I was going to get one of those booklets that prepare you for the test but found it to be unnecessary. If you feel that you need one of those for your particular area, I know they aren't that expensive and it just might give you the edge you need.
