The Never Ending Period. What is wrong?

I have always had extremely irregular periods.
Started when I was 12 and am now 20.
I will bleed for 4 weeks to 2+ months at one time.
Then I may stop, then start again in a few days and go on for a few more months. I also have been known to not get a period for 2+ months, then start again and its never ending.

I'm not talking spotting here and there, I'm talking a consistent full on having a never ending period.

I've seen a few doctors over the years and they've done ultrasounds, blood tests and checked my thyroid, but weren't able to tell me why I bleed this way or how to stop it.

I got put on "the patch" and had horrific side effects, although it did stop my bleeding. I don't want a band aid, something to just mask the problem, I want know WHAT is wrong with me and how to fix the problem, not the symptom.

I'm hoping that someone on here knows what's wrong.
I haven't seen anyone for this problem in a few years, but I do have a Dr. appointment for next week.

Thank you to (almost) everyone who answered. There were some good suggestions that I will write down and bring to the Doctor's with me.
I personally think its a thyroid problem, and the hormone imbalance makes a lot of sense too. Thanks again.

Keep going to a doctor until you find the one that tells you something that makes sense. I have heard that fibroids can do that.....
You must advocate for yourself and DEMAND more opinions.

Good Luck!

First and foremost your doing the right thing going back to the doctors. I would keep getting a second opinion. See if the can put you on a birth-control pill with real small amount of estrogen. I know you don't want a band aid and you want to know whats going on.

I honestly cannot tell you whats wrong. I'm not a doctor.

Go on ther pill that will sort you out my friend had the same problem now shes on the pill shes fine. Speak to the doctors and say you can't bear it anymore and there stick you on the pill, see how you go and if it don't work for you you can try a different pill

you may have a fibroid cyst, non cancerious. have you had normal pap smears? are you on birth control pills?
could be hormonal,
did you have a abdominal and vagina ultra sound?
what blood work have you had? did you go to a obgyn/gyne or a family doctor? it makes a difference. i know this answer is more like a question put if you email me i could help u out. if my email is hidden its,
twilight2520@yahoo.com

Well losing all this blood, you could become anemic <dont know how to spell it

Im sure there must be something wrong, i think going to the doctor is all you can do for now...good luck :)

btw ignore most of the guys answering...most of them dont have a clue what they're talking about

Have they checked for fibroids? What are your iron levels doing?

I'm sorry this is happening to you. I wouldn't be surprised if you had some fibroids or cysts that have been plaguing you.

Your Hormones are not b alanced, that why when ya had the patch it as ok..so go to your DR.ppt and tell him all this and he will fix ya up.

I had the same problem, when I was 12 and 13, Dr put me on the pill to solve the problem... It took changeing brands more than once to solve...

What caused it? Hormone imbalance..What caused that? Genes....

get birth control.
it's not healthy to get it for more than 2 weeks... let alone over a month !

but if doctors have checked you out, i really am not one to give advice !

Did you just start? If you have been having it for a while and you just started, nothing.

your eggs are just really active probably.

had that it was fibroid tumors can be removed or endometriosis

im sorry i dont know whats wrong but i hope it gets better

if i were u i would just talk to a doc. see wat they say

stop having too much rough sex.

Sounds to me like your hormones are just out of control. Have you tried the pill? It regulates your hormones and periods and can sometimes last after you stop taking the pill (assuming you have been on it long enough for your body to understand what it's supposed to do). That's all i can think of. I have PCOS and have had the opposite problem. I usually have like 2 periods a year and the only extra long one i've had was when i was getting the depo shot (a month long after my 3rd shot... that's when i stopped!) I think having a dr who actually cares has alot to do with it. I've always had very irregular periods and finally had a dr look into it like 3 years ago. The 3+ years before that, my doctors didn't seem concerned- even though not having a period can make your lining build up more and more and lead to cervical cancer. That's how my obgyn explained it anyways.

Please, don't worry. U can have total relief with the aid of tissue remedies, which are quite safe with no side effects..Ur trust is 90% + impact of medicine is 10%. Menses鈥?(Excessive)鈥擬ixture of CF 3x, FP 12x KM 3x, KP 3x, NM 3x and NS 3x. This is wonderful.
Take Aonla seed powder it. Take 1/4 tola (1/10 oz.) of it with 1 pao of water before expected date of commencement of monthly course, for 8 days. This is good for ladies of all ages. In severe cases alternate this with bleeding mixture and if this too fails give Tumour powder.

..

All these biochemic salts are safe and with side benefits. Don鈥檛 swallow medicine. The medicine to be dissolved on/under the tongue. Don鈥檛 take any thing 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after medication. You can take water.
In addition, acupressure techniques with the aid of acupressure kit also helps u a lot. With best wishes from www.saioam.com.

Wow, this is terrible and very strange. I'm surprised no doctor has kept on investigating this until they get some help for you. Have you considered going on the Depo Provera shot? It didn't work for me, but it worked wonders for a friend of mine. It completely stopped her periods. Find a reputable highly recommended gynecologist (not just a regular family physician) who can help you. Be persistent. Don't let anyone write you off. You have a serious problem that you should not have to be living with and someone needs to listen to you.

I would continue digging untill I get to the core of this.
Surely its not normal.
Please can u answer the following questions as they are, so i can dig up with u.
How old are u? Are u sexually active? Do u have children?
About the bleeding, when did it start being continuous? How heavy do u mean heavy, how many pads per day would u change? Is it like normal period, as in the feeling of some discomfort and slight pain?
Any other associated symptoms like fatigue, pallor.
What do u do after u loose so much blood, do u take any haematenics?
Do u have any other illneses, diabetes, hypertension,,,any medication that u take everyday? Any history of use of birth control pills? Ever done a PAP smear?
Any such thing in ur family? Any history of cancer in ur family?
Do u smoke(if yes how much), drink alcohol (if so how much), ur diet?

I'm sorry if this doesn't help much, but it could actually be that you're still regulating from when you started 8 yrs. ago. For some women, it can take that long for your body to get into a cycle. I sometimes experience what you're describing, but not to the extent of yours. Every single time I get my period, it's length is unpredictable but lasts no longer than 8 days. And then it will stop for sometimes up to 4 months. However, I did start only about 2 1/2 yrs. ago. If you've had nay kind of unprotected sex, that could also be the problem. Hope this helps alittle. Hang in there!

Probably gonorrhea

NOTHING

ITS JUST YOUR BODY...NATURALLY
