Is this normal for old age?

my mom is 80 years old and often forgets my name and who i am but once she is reminded shes remembers for most of the day.i know she gets confused often about different things and often seems like she is left out but for the last couple of weeks i have been spending more time with her ans she is now starting to join in and talk to me more.today i sat down and brought up old times with her and she became jovial.i know she needs a proper hearing aid and only uses a loud and clear because the hearing specialist say they can't do a hearing test because she can't hear the sounds.

If she is isolated then her mind will drift. She needs interaction just like everyone else.

However, it is not "normal" to forget a child's name and who you are.
She needs to be checked over my a medical dr.

One of my Grandmas had Alzheimer and the other had senile dementia (they are not the same thing) But it could be something as simple as lacking proper vitamins or contradicting medicines. She should be checked out though.

***PS with my family history I am REALLY looking forward to old age***

Yes, it happens to most old people. Your mom maybe got Alheizmer. Hearing would be bad too for them, since they've lost their sharpness due to many thing. My grandma is 78, and her hearing is extremely bad, it's tough to talk to her. So I think your mom is almost the same. Just be with her, that'll be just fine. It's common.

unless there is a phd. on this site that can give you the proper answer i think you need to take her to a real doctor. she seems to be well enough but only a real dr. can say that. good luck!
