T cell count 27, what could this be?

My friend just called me and said he was really sick. He has had a cough since november. He went to the Doctor and they tested his blood and his t cell count was 27. He has coughed up trace amounts of blood, lost control of his Bowell's a couple of times. He also had a spell where he could not see anything for a few minutes. He is 6'2" and is down to 125lbs. (he has always been really skinny...but not that skinny!) the doctors have put him on several antibiotics and did one chest xray and all they saw was a bunch of scar tissue (he had three lung surgeries a few years back due to walking pneumonia.) He say's the doctor does not know what is wrong with him. They have drawn 9 or so vials of blood and so far everything they have tested for has come back negative. He is 30 years old.

I am worried this could be AIDS. He is homosexual and has been very promiscuous. Maybe he is just not wanting to tell me the whole truth. But if he is, does anybody here have any ideas as to what he could be suffering from? I really hope I am not sounding completely ignorant here, I am just really worried.

I also wanted to add that last time I saw him in Nov he had a very weird sore on his leg like nothing I have ever seen. He say's that sore stayed for about a month and then went away.

Well.. I would bet all I have in the bank it it AIDS. The T cell count gave it away. It is way too low and the weight loss and everything else like the cough is not a good sign at all. When in last stages of aids ( what I have seen) the pneumonia does them in. Their immune systems are so compromised that anyone around them that has something contagious can kill them. You don't sound ignorant at all. There are too many people who just don't know a whole lot about aids. I think he is not wanting to tell you the whole truth. I think its about time you give him a call and tell him straight out You know.. or you have an overwhelming feeling.. something along those lines. The lesions on his leg is also not a good sign. If he is not healing .. something is very wrong but I think you already know that.

T cell counts arent often checked unless someone has HIV

When T cells are lower than 200, i am sorry but its HIV. I may be wrong but that's what i kind of remember reading in a article.

It is AIDS.

I been sick for over 3 weeks now. They kept taking my blood and x-rays and piss tests and couldnt figure out whats goin on. The last hospital visit they told me my t-cell(white blood count) was high which means its fighting off a infection. But if the t-cells is low that means he chapta 11 out chea. His immune system aint doin what its pozed to be doin. HIV does cause that but alotta otha things too. It always cums up cuz it would be the worst case senario. ya diggy? tell him stop lettin funny fun boys put their fun toys in his fun box.

If his cell count is that low and he has been sick for that long I guarantee that one of the first things tested for was auto-immune viruses, including HIV/AIDS. In which case, either he is lying to you about his diagnosis or he is negative.

Keep in mind that when our bodies are sick like that, other things take longer to heal, like his sore. So his inability to get better may just be his own immune system not being able catch up rather than an auto-immune problem.

Ask your friend the result of his aids test, and when he was last checked. In his condition, I would feel inclined to say, yes, more than likely, that it is something serious. My dad had cancer, and his tcell was high.The only other thing that may cause such illnesses, would be something where the immune system turns in on itself. I will say a prayer for your friend.
