Will an "F" effect my financial aid?

Im worried about getting an "F"!!!?
I'm in a community college and I want to transfer in 2010 to a State College. The class that I'm getting an "F" on is not one that I need for my major. It's a Chemistry class. My major will be English. I'm so frustrated at this point that I don't even want to go to the class anymore. I'm so far behind that I cant catch up and I'm failing all my tests. When I read the material, I understand and am able to do the book problems, however, I just can't catch up anymore. I'm getting financial aid and I don't know if this will effect my chances of getting it next semester. What can you advice me?. Should I just stop going and concentrate on passing my other classes?. Im really embarrassed to go to this class cause at this point in time, it's a waste of time because I don't understand a thing. This class is a 4 unit class that makes up 13 units for a full time schedule. Please help! I want to know weather I should go to class this upcoming Monday.

Why are you taking chemistry as an English major? It doesn't make any sense. I know many students majoring in the sciences who are having trouble with chemistry. If it's to satisfy general ed requirements, there are definitely easier classes you could have taken.

Do everything you can to pass the class. It seems like you've already given up? I don't know when the class ends, but its April, so you have a little less than a month. That's plenty of time to relearn and study the material. Attend class and go see your instructor during his office hours. Explain your situation and ask for help with concepts you don't understand. If it is evident you are putting a lot of effort into the course, he might pass you even if you fail.

Financial aid eligibility usually has a minimum 2.0 gpa requirement, but it varies for different grants, scholarships, and programs. I can't tell you if an F will affect your financial aid without knowing your gpa. If you're a first year student and don't have many credits to balance out the F, an F will definitely hurt your gpa.

if im not mistaken, you can fail 1 class and still get financial aid. You will get put on academic probation or something like that.

Ask the financial aid dept to be sure, but i think you will be ok.

Good luck!

Didn't you just ask this question...?

I would highly recommend that you go to class. Try to get a "D" in the course and if it is not looking good, talk to your professor. Professors are willing to work with you if they know you are putting forth effort in their class. An "F" hurts your GPA average greatly no matter how high your other grades are. As far as your financial aid is concerned; you would have to find out what the requirements are to continue to renew it. Usually they require at least a 3.0 GPA on average, but it's different for every institution; some require a 2.0 and some require a 3.2. Good luck and try your best to get that "D".
