Isn't this just another good reason to vote more Republicans out of office?

Craig Blair (R) West Virgina wants to drug test everyone receiving unemployment benefits and/or food stamps.

Once again the right-wingers want to pick and choose who to apply laws to. "Selective Law"........ a Republican cornerstone.

Would any Republican have a problem with a law that requires, ALL employers, employees, ALL owners, ALL government representatives, their aids, ALL news media, entertainment industry, ALL self-employed, ALL military personnel regardless of rank, ALL college students, ALL students 7th through 12th grade, and ALL clergy to be drug tested EVERYDAY?

If the Republican agenda is TRULY about getting people off of drugs. I think this would do it. And HEY, we shouldn't worry about the cost, we want a drug free culture, and at the same time the Republicans can take the credit for eliminating the crime and problems that come from it. And by doing it EVERYDAY to EVERY citizen or anyone else that lives in or does business with the United States, the Republicans will be holding these people who profit from income in American dollars to the same high standards.

Want to prove to the American grass roots that the Republican agenda isn't just about creating a society of double standards? Then how about it? What say ye? Let me hear those but and if excuses now.

EDIT> I also do not do ANY illegal drugs, and DO NOT receive any food stamps or welfare. I am self-employed and don't have a problem of taking a drug test EVERYDAY. But I am tired of seeing double standards of justice in this country. And I see by some of the answers on here that those who support the Republican agenda, think the same laws should not apply to them. I guess this is what I basically thought would be the answers from the right. Many didn't even read the entire question, but still found it necessary to throw in their 2 cents in defence of a law that can and will be used in a biased manner. TYPICAL.... This is exactly why we must NOT allow more right-wingers into office in 2010. They refuse to accept EQUALITY.

The reason would be to DENY compensation to people who may have used....did you know weed can stay in your hair for months?? So if I had a fatty back on Christmas, got fired in March, I couldn't get unemployment....This is VERY WRONG!!!

Why not just get rid of welfare all together?

And good luck, since welfare is run by the states now, it would have to be done in every state.

Democrats have proposed the same idea, so don't act all morally superior, i cant stand either of your ******* party's, have fun being corrupt, and have politicians pretending they give a half **** about you.

Okay lets see.....Drug test welfare recipients or federal control of private businesses. Which is worse? Are they not the same? If you do not want federal control over your private life, lets all tell them to butt out. Not just the republicans but the democrats also. Now as to your drug testing every day. So what, I don't do illegal drugs so I have no worries. Also I'm not on welfare, I'm the slave that works so others can be on welfare.

Why would you vote someone out of office like that? Are you afraid they may actually hold people responsible for their own actions?

These people are receiving my money that I worked for. I don't want my money going toward someones drug habit.

Thanks for the info though, it reminds me why I vote conservative.

I think it's fair considering the money comes from taxes taken from citizens who had to be drug tested to get the job for which the taxes provide for food stamps. The government does not have it's own money.

No. As a liberal, I happen to agree with this idea. If you are sitting on your butt getting money from the government to do nothing you should be subject to drug testing. If you can afford drugs, you don't need a government handout.

I agree with him. Anyone who's leeching off the government should be drug tested just like someone on probation. Our government was not created to support the people but to protect them.

no, just say no to political parties, VOTE INDEPENDENT!

I have no problems with drug tests, but do believe if I have to take a drug test all others should too.

They would be screwed either way. A drug test to get entitlements or a drug test to keep a job.

So you have no problem with your tax money going to support a drug habit instead of going to a family?

hahaa... one of those W. Va. meth heads will come after him....

Your argument makes no sense. Liberals want to pass laws to take money away from AIG exec's based on the fact that we "gave" them the money. This is nothing more than an extention. If slacker drug users want to continue to be losers then they don't have to take the money. If they want to turn their lives around and take other peoples charity (taken by force) then it is simply a condition of this charity. NO DRUGS.... It is the liberal principal....

The difference is liberals slipped into the bailout the right to this money until it was revealed then did a 180. The problem is liberals are responsible for it.

The reason Craig Blair wants to drug test everyone receiving unemployment money is so they don't spend America's money (that is given to them to help aid them while they search for new job) on drugs. He doesn't test everyone because 1) It's too expensive and invasive and 2) spending one's own hard earned money on drugs is a lot different than spending tax payers hard earned money on drugs. If the government is giving someone money they damn-well have a right to know how it's being spent!

Government employees and military personnel work for the Government, who has the same right as any other employer to test its own employees for drug use. Also, according to your question, the Government only wants to test those receiving some form of Benefits in the form of taxpayer money. As a taxpayer, I don't want my hard earned money taken against my will to support somebody's drug habit. It could be argued that since these people receive Government money, they are also Government employees. Any law requiring testing everyone, while it sounds good at first, falls apart under scrutiny. First, it would be prohibitively expensive to enact and enforce. Second, even if the testing is considered a reasonable search (which I doubt it would be), it would be a huge leap toward losing our civil rights. Furthermore, you seem to be attempting to stereotype the entire Republican party based on one man's actions. So, if the Government (state or Federal, you didn't say which) wants to test only the people who receive money from it, no big deal. If it wants to test every one against their will, then we may have to use the Second Amendment for its intended purpose: keeping the Government under our (the people's) control. By the way, I am an extremely right wing Republican and fing drug use abhorrent.

So, you do not have a problem with those on Assistance using YOUR money to buy drugs?
The program would include a rehab program to help them get away from the drugs, and use YOUR money for it's intended purpose, which is NOT supporting illegal activities.
I just Retired from the Corps, and all Ranks ARE tested.. many companies in the civvy sector also use testing...
Many contractors are also required to test, if the contracts are Government related... sorry, you are just wrong.
It's not about Party power, it's about what is right... and frankly, using Assistance money that is intended for you, and your Family, for drugs is just wrong.
If you folks quit being so damn partisan... forget it, you won't.

So, since you think daily testing is a good thing, are you petitioning your Representatives to sponsor some legislation in that regard? Didn't think so...

Did I say not me? I get tested all the time, as condition of employement. In fact, you kind folks are happy that I do.
I think testing is a good deterrent, and a good way to identify abusers and get them help.
Many people are tested, why not those on Assistance? It makes good sense, and also it is very popular amongst BOTH Party's... more than 1 State has already passed similar Legislation... with support from both sides of the aisle.

The FACT is, workers pay into the unemployment system through their tax dollars. Someone who has worked for 10 years has already paid into the system. To deny them their own money when they lose their job would be unconstitutional, not to mention the incredible costs involved in randomly drug testing all unemployed people. Welfare AND food stamps combined make up less than 2% of the ENTIRE federal budget. Corporate Welfare costs tax payers 8 times that amount. Unemployment lasts for a max of 3 years, and the unemployed person MUST prove he/she is actively seeking employment to qualify.
