? about child support?

I have a family member who is pregnant and the dad lives in a different state. He wants nothing to do with this. She wants to sue him for child support once the baby is born. How will she go about doing this? Will she need to get an attorney or could she just use legal aid? Will she have to pay for a DNA test?

How much would legal aid cost? I don't want to sound rude, but I'm stressing out on how she's going to afford this baby. She makes $10 per hour and lives on her own, but she's going to have to factor in the cost of diapers,formula,daycare,ect. I told her to apply for food stamps and wic. Will wic pay for all her baby formula?

Tell her to leave him alone, that's your best bet.

Have her go to the local court -- there are now agreements in all states to execute and enforce support orders.

Almost every state has legal aid of some kind -- she should contact them now -- the DNA test will be part of the whole thing and will probably be paid for by him or the court.

She better not be wrong about the father -- she could be subject to significant legal blowback if she falsely accuses someone.

But if she is right and he is the only possible father, then he owes her (and us taxpayers) to help raise the kid he created.

She could use legal aid. Child support petitions are straightforward. Shee'll petition the court, the court will order a DNA test, and, assuming he's the dad, the court will issue a support order.

Depending on her income and expenses, if she qualifies for WIC, wic covers all that sort of thing.

After the child is born, she should open a child support case and leave it alone. Let them do all the work but she should have expect anything to come out of it. If someone doesn't want to pay, they can avoid the system for years.
