Men, I have a personal question?

What's the process of getting tested for STI's and AIDS?

How long does it take for the results to come back?

The easiest way is to donate Blood.
They do a complete test for everything and it is free.

Go to your family physicain or, if you want to remain anonymous, to any GP, urologist, Gay Men's Health Care Center, or Planned Parenthood center, tell them the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and they will write a referral for the appropriate tests and send you to a hospital or private laboratory.

Preliminary results will be sent to your doctor within 7 days, 14 days for sure. Often a lot quicker: within a matter of hours for HIV if you go to a Gay Men's Health Center, essentially, while you wait. Keep checking with them.

Some of the tests are screening tests that give lots of false positives (the RPR test for syphilis in particular), and you will have to be retested with a more specific test to confirm or rule out.

Don't forget to visit your doctor and talk over any positive results with them. Further testing may be needed to make absolutely sure that you are infected, and treatment is must effective if started as early as possible. You may also need a referral to a mental health professional if you are positive. If they doesn't suggest it, ask for it yourself.

Make sure your partner is tested, too.

Good luck!

It depends where you are. In the UK, AIDS is tested usually by a blood sample taken by syringe. The results can take about six weeks I think which does provide an uncomfortable period. Other STI's are tested in different ways such as taking a swab sample or urin sample. It depends on the STI. Sometimes, the doctor can identify an STI just by looking at it (not applicable to STI's which show no symptoms such as AIDS or Ghonnorea). There is plenty of information on the internet if you go to a search engine and type in somethign like 'testing process for HIV/AIDS.

It's easy. Just go to your doctor (or there are free teen clinics if you prefer anonymity), they'll take a bit of blood, and you'll have your results in about an hour.

Go to your local clinic, and or a plan parenthood type of location. Most test should be done in an hour some take a couple days to get back.

Good luck. XD
