What consist of a DNA TEST for child support?

O.k. here is the thing, Child Support is been filed through the state on my husband, due to the mom of the child been on cash aid; he never knew of the child who was born in 2006, 'til now, he doesn't know who this woman is, or at least doesn't recognize the name, no one ever told him about her been pregnant she lives in a different state than us, she is not the one filing child support its the state. Anyway, he went to get the DNA test that he requested. We though it would be a swab test & that's it. They ended up taking a picture fingerprints & taking a copy of his ID as well. Is this Typical for a DNA test, I understand the copy of the ID but i don't know about the fingerprint and picture. thank you in advance for your answers!

The procedure, as you describe it, is standard procedure. The ID, picture, and fingerprint are to assure that the sample is from the person named in the court order.

I have been married 39 years. If I got a court order to submit to a DNA test, I would assure my wife that I do not know the woman, never heard of her name, it must be a mistake, etc., etc., until the DNA results come back. Then, I might say "Oh, THAT Betty!" and start grovelling and buying jewelry and flowers.

It is typical if the DNA test is being performed by child support enforcement on behalf of the state. I worked for Family Services for 30 years in Missouri, and it is not uncommon for a man to try to send another person (friend, uncle etc) to take the DNA test for them so they can get out of paying child support. They will show the picture to the mother of the child to make sure your husband is the man she claims is the baby's father. For example, maybe a friend of your husbands met this woman and gave your husbands name instead of his own (also not uncommon for men wanting a one night stand to do). The ID and fingerprints are for them to make sure that your husband is who he says he is.
