Needle stick accident!! Help!!? |
I was disposing of a needle while taking blood from a fellow student and the cap came off and i stuk myself. I had blood tests the same day, and 2 days after it had another AIDS test. This all happened on the second and the fourth of June. Today, the doctors receptonist calls and tells me the doctor wants to see me. She said she doesn't know how to read the test but said he would have called me sooner if anything. She made my appointment for June 29th. Have you asked the fellow student if she has any communicable diseases. Stop freaking out, the chances of a needle stick causing AIDS is very low. They probably just want to see you to go over the results in person. Hep C and others can be transmitted by blood but I would just flat out ask your fellow student if everythings cool so you don't worry as much. As long as you washed it out right away and the needle wasn't dripping in blood your prob ok..Always milk the area if you get stuck, so that you make yourself bleed a little, to push the pathogens out, then wash real good with soap and water.. they probably saw 2 different blood types and couldn't read it. If it was an emergency, they would call you in like as soon as possible. If you had AIDS and the doctor couldn't see you in person, they would tell you on the phone since it is contagious. Don't worry though =] I personally do not think that they would rush you in if it was bad news. I really don't, I mean lets say it is something bad... maybe there isn't anything that they can do but on the same token... one never knows... everything just might be just fine. Only time will tell. Sorry that I couldn't give you a happy ending! eh, motivation to be more careful next time! if something happened there is nothing you can do to help it now. There is no use worrying about it Just wait it out, stay calm. They would have rushed you in if it was serious. Best wishes, -Stephanie This is just my opinion, but I would think that if you were drawing blood from students and one of the students had AIDS that it would have to be known by everyone. I understand the privacy and everything that goes with AIDS, but that is something serious! For the exact reason that you stated "the cap came off and i stuk myself." Plus, it won't show up only 13 days later unless you have had it prior to the needle stick. |
