How to make a wormhole / PORTAL (vg)?

Hello. Now, I know I'm gonna sound like a geek, but I'm curious.
My question is about a video game called "Portal" by Valve, in which a character solves puzzle-like tests in an underground facility with the aid of a "portal gun". This is how the "portal gun" works in the game:
your character fires the gun aiming at a flat/smooth surface; the projectile then opens an entry portal; shooting another projectile on a different surface will open an exit portal; your character is now able to pass through the portal, covering long distances in no time at all.

My question is: if possible, how would this work (be as detailed as you want with theories or thoughts); if no, why not?

There is no way to make a wormhole or a portal through which a human being can traverse to cover enormous distances.

Why not? well a wormhole is a rip in spacetime that connects to other rips in spacetime. The amount of mass/energy required to create such rips are far beyond anything that our current technology can muster.
