Positive Result for Herpes Now Negative Result?

This question is regarding a friend....she was hosptalized because when she peed it burned and she had discharge and bumps on her vagina, she also could not sit down and had a fever because it was too painful. During her time in the hospital she was diagnosed with Herpes and E-coli in her blood stream. Her herpes result was positive. She has been taking Valtrex (I think that's the name of the drug)

She now has tested negative. My concern is that she is having unprotected sex with her current boyfriend and possibly giving him an std.

My question is: Is it possible to still have Herpes (and like Aids) be in remission so to say where it won't show up in ur blood stream? Is it possible, considering the symptoms she was having, that it could've been an allergic reaction to yeast infection cream (which she told me she was taking)? And is it possible for the person that infected her to test negative or for her to have been positive all along and not exhibit symptoms?

I want to be a supportive friend in her relationship but I don't think that a person can have all the symptoms of a disease and then it miraculously disappears and tests negative. And I want her to be in a safe relationship and not pass std's around from one partner to the next.

Herpes can be misdiagnosed if an outbreak isnt showing. It can be iin "hybernation" where you dont have outbreaks but can still pass on to others. Herpes is different for everyone. Some people can go their whole life with no outbreaks or knowledge that they have it. Most OBGYN's will tell you that its recomended to get checked out WHILE there are concerned outbreaks showing so that they can properly diagnose the infection. Having un protected sex with or without an outbreak is NOT safe and NOT reccomended. Its still possible to pass it on to others. And not fair to others.

this is a great site and you can find out everything you want to know just by reading. hope this helps

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and No.

there is no cure or mercalous recovery deal but the 1st test could have been wrong(doubtful). she needs to go again. i have only taken meds once for about 3 weeks in the 5 years i have had this so i don't know if that would cause it not to show but i can say once you got it you GOT it. if her symptoms have gone that dosn't mean jack it will stay in her blood stream

gd for her

when she tested neg for herpes then she may not have had an outbreak. and yes you can still pass it on if you don't have an outbreak. and her bf should be tested also because its possible he could have passed it on to her and him not know he had it. she needs to get second opinion and tell them the Dr. put her on valtrex and that may be why shes neg now. but i would go get a second opinion anyways to be safe because like i said even if she doesn't have the sores she can still pass it on with UN safe sex.

1st test may have been wrong, or the more likely scenario is that she is in remission, wants to believe she doesn't have any disease and is lying to you and herself about the the second test result.

How can she give herpes to her bf if he gave it to her....how else did she get it?? Think about that.

As for a neg result, it happens. A blood test in 3 months after inital exposure will tell if she has antobodies in her system.

Even without a sore, there is a 1-3% chance of spreading the virus to a partner that has no antibodies. You can't get it twice.
