MEDICAL TIRALS? ADVICE please!?

Hey there, I was looking on gumtree, and saw this ad for medical trials, I emailed them, and they called me back. Below are the details, what do you guys think? Has anyone done anything like this? (or your friends?) Would you do it? The money is so good, and would be half my trip saved up!
----

Ok so it is a pill that aids in narrowing the arteries. The lady said it is in it鈥檚 final stages, and over 6,000 had taken the tablet already.
I have to stay in Hospital from a sunday 鈥?wed morning, and I get ONE DOSE of the medication (for the whole trial, only one dose).

Then, over the next 3 weeks, I have to go in 3 times per week for a blood test (will take 20 mins).

For all that, I get paid 拢1,400.

So its 3 days in hospital, 1 dose of the medication and 9脳20min blood tests over 3 weeks.

What do we think? Your feedback would be great!

Cheers!

I've been in drug trials before. You need to present alot more information here for anyone to advise. Also, and more importantly, YOU need more information before you can make a decision. I'm not sure about your country, but in the US we require full disclosure of the drug. This would include, but not be limited to, information on the name, use, dose, side effects, pregnancy data, cytotoxic data, duration, etc.....of the drug. BTW, it narrows arteries???Are you sure it doesn't widen or dilate arteries?? Unless it's some kind of presser, I would think you would want dilation. Get a copy of all the paperwork about the drug and call your doctor. Ask them if they would do it.

Because of the amount of money they are offering, I would be really hesitant to do the trial. It almost seems as though it were compensation for what might go wrong. I wouldn't take the chance with my health - you never know how something might affect you down the road....

I really don't have enough information to gather any information.
Would you have the name of the medication (or drug or herb or supplement or whatever it is)?
Second, what country are you from? I might be able to find something out in a national registry of clinical trials.

Tried to email you, but got a message back that the email had not been confirmed.

Looking forward to providing feedback,

Janice

No, I repeat NO, medical procedure is without risk. You can take a prescription medication, Over-the-Counter medication, go in for minor surgery, or major surgery and be just fine. You can also end up dead for all of these as well.

So by subjecting yourself to this drug trial you WILL be exposing yourself to some risk of an adverse event. You will undoubtedly be required to sign several documents indicating you have been informed that you may experience an adverse event, as minor as a headache to severe as death by particpating in a trial.

The amount of compensation is normally tied to the amount of time it takes and the expected side effects. For an example, chemotherapy drugs (which make you feel very sick while healing the condition the drug is being given) often have compensations over $10,000 for participating since the side effects are so difficult to deal with.

This is a legitimate practice for drug companies to get safety data about their drugs (especially since 90% of the rubes here are tree hugging save the animal types that don't want any testing done on animals either). If the study is being performed at a hospital you can be confident that it has been reviewed and approved by physicians.

So if you are willing to participate in the study at the risk of having a complication, I'd say go for it. I would recommend you do the following:
Pay close attention to all documentation they present you and ask you to sign.
Ask questions about anything you are uncertain about. For instance, if you get sick or have a complication, who would pay for my treatment? If taking the drug results in me being disabled, would I be able to seek compensation from the drug company? Has this trial been reviewed and approved by the hospital administrators? What are the common side-effects observed in the previous 6,000 trials. (they may not tell you so as not to bias your response) . What is the rate of the most commonly reported side-effect (this they should be able to answer)
