Tylenol PM as a sleep aid?

I have a huge test tommorrow, and I need to get a good nights rest. The thing is, I can never sleep well the night before I have a test, because I get nervous. I was wondering if it would be okay to take tylenol pm to help me sleep? I've never used it as a sleep aid before, and I don't intend to do it very often. My friend told me I should take 3...is that okay? I'm 17, if that makes any difference.

Don't take 3 take 1 if you want to be bright and alert tomorrow morning.

All it is is benadryl and Tylenol. 25mg of benadryl will be enough to make you drowsy.

Tylenol PM is just Tylenol and Benadryl, 3 Benadryl would probally knock a man out...if he wasnt used to taking anything. Try just taking a Benadryl, depending on how it worked you could take 2...personally I wouldnt take 3.

I wouldn't recommend you try something like this the night before a test. Some people will feel "hung over" and not be mentally sharp the next day after taking a sleep aid - Tylenol PM has a mild antihistamine in it, I believe, and these can fell some folks. Melatonin is another sleep aid - it works well on some, not on others, and leaves others sleepy all the next day. Get this test behind you, then experiment when it won't matter how alert you are the next day.

Don't take 3!!!!!!!!!!!!! in fact, one should be fine, that's what I take and it knocks me on my ****!

The bad thing about Tylenol PM is the Tylenol.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a pain reliever that does not promote sleep unless pain is keeping you awake. The downside to tylenol is that it has liver toxicity potential.

Alcohol increases the liver toxcity of tylenol, but just repeated dosing over a long run of days can do that as well.

Most over the counter sleep aids have antihistamines as their sleeping ingredient, that are normally used for allergies but as a side effect promote sleep, so I would stick to just those types of products, the cheapest is diphenhydramine found in Benadryl and availabe as a generic under a variety of brands.

Drinking milk, avoiding bright lights before going to bed, avoiding caffeine, and having background noises covered with a fan also help.
