Am I not sensible? Am I being stupid?

My fiance and I were not having intercourse, just skin-to-skin contact. But a week ago the doctor confirmed that I have herpes. I am engaged (4 months now) to the man who has given me the disease. He is not aware that he might have the diease - according to him, before being with me, his last sex activity was some 9 months ago and he had been very safe all this time. He has gone for the STD test & is still waiting for the result. What's the difference between herpes & AIDS? How serious or dangerous can herpes be? How often will the outbreak be back?

I love my fiance very much & I still wanted to be his wife. Is my decision stupid? He felt guilty for transmitting the disease to me & wanted to end our relationship. However, he assured me that he will take good care of me even if we're not married as he felt he is responsible for what has happened? Should he be totally blamed for what happened? Does it makes sense if I still decided to have children with him? I do not want to lose him.

Herpes is a viral infection, it's a bit gross but it's not deadly. It has no cure, but there are treatments to curb outbreaks. Really, all you get are outbreaks of sores in your genital area. Never had it, so I don't know if they are painful/uncomfortable, but I would guess anything unusual there would be. The first outbreak is the worst, the rest are usually much smaller. Many reoccur on a monthly cycle, however medications like Valtrex can curb this.

AIDS, on the other hand, is quite deadly. With new treatments, people are living much longer, but the disease is fatal. AIDS lowers your immune system response to other illnesses, so you become subject to most of them. Those that die of AIDS often suffer a great deal. While it is still in the HIV stage, there may be no signs or symptoms. Once it progresses to AIDS, it is usually a downhill slope.

If you both have herpes, I wouldn't think twice about it. No worry of spreading, etc. Talk it over with your OB/GYN regarding childbirth before you get pregnant, there are medications you need to be on in order to not spread it to your children. As long as he didn't get this from cheating on you, there's no dishonesty issue. He didn't even know he had it. I would be upset that I had a disease, but I wouldn't let it be a trauma to the relationship.

herpes zoster is viral , it sperads but its not life threatening for you and your children.
