Can the vaccine transfer thru blood too and make the cat show a false positive?

My cat was recently diagnosed with AIDS and they are saying he has tested positive. He shows no symptoms and I am having problems convicting him when there is no evidence.... he has gotten into some fights with cats that have been vaccinated in the neighborhood why is it not possible if they have exchanged blood with eachother that he might be testing postive due to that and not because he actually has aids.... he's the same old cat and isn't sick.... please help
I need to know how possible it is for him to fight cats that have been treated and be showing up a false positive.... he just doesn't act sick at all

Unfortunately there's not likely to be a false positive, but that doesn't mean that your cat can't have a good life. Have a look here http://cats.about.com/cs/healthissues/a/... and I hope he stays happy

If he has gotten into a fight with other cats that have not been vaccinated againt feline leuk/hiv then there is a high possibilty that yes he is postive. He just may not be showing the signs yet.

Cat get FIV (not HIV or AIDS) by being bitten by an infected cat (or in very rare cases, they are born with it). If your cat is a fighter and isn't vaccinated, it is entirely possible that he has FIV.

FIV+ cats can live long and healthy lives. I had a cat that was born with FIV and she was perfectly healthy until she was 9 or 10 years old.

Has he been vaccinated for FIV? Cats that are vaccinated for FIV will test positive for it, as current tests cannot distinguish between the vaccine and the disease. Other than that, I'm afraid it isn't a false positive. The vaccine isn't 100% effective in preventing the disease, to begin with - and you also can't be certain that he hasn't fought with a cat that wasn't vaccinated. Many cats with FIV show no symptoms - and with proper care can lead very healthy lives. This involves keeping him indoors of course, both to limit his exposure to fights and things (an abscessed bite wound could kill him) and to keep him from infecting other cats. This is sadly the price that he pays for his outdoor lifestyle.

Cats transmit FIV to each other through deep bite wounds. As JC said, tests cannot determine if a cat is positive for the actual virus or the tests are positive because of the vaccine.

FIV has three stages of infection. They include an acute phase associated with various symptoms, which include infections, fever and lymph node (gland) enlargement. The second phase is called the subclinical phase, which lasts from months to years, during which time many cats appear healthy. The third phase is chronic infection, which is associated with deterioration of the immune function and predisposes cats to a variety of infections.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for FIV, though with good diet and antibiotics, many cats can live a long life, but they must avoid contact with other cats so as not to pass on the infection.

Your vet will be able to explain the best ways to manage his health, but in the meantime the article below has lots of information that you may find helpful.
