I have a friend who just said.........,?

her husband died of aids 3 yrs ago and she's been tested as as negative,whats the likelyhood that its accurate being that as I understood aids has a long period of developement ..Are blood test are accurate.?...I 'm just questioning the accurancy my friends "story".....do I believe that after 3 yrs it,{aids} would have shown up. { ? }...why wait 8 months to tell me..& why me?

There are a lot of couples out there with one person having HIV/AIDS and the other doesn't have it.

My uncle had HIV/AIDS and died from it back in 1997. His boyfriend, or partner, NEVER got the virus from him. They were together for about 10 years.

Also, Magic Johnson (the ex basketball player) has had HIV for like 16 years and his wife doesn't have it.

So, it's definitely possible for your friend to not have the virus, even if her husband did.

for most people, it takes 6 weeks to 6 months after becoming infected for the HIV test to come back positive. if her test 3 years later is coming back negative, she is negative. the test is 99.7% sensitive, one of the best tests medical science has to offer. that being said, it's a good idea for both partners to be tested for STDs/HIV before starting a sexual relationship.
it sounds like you may be in a relationship with this woman. it sounds like she's been through a lot and probably needs your support. good luck.

I should think if the tests after this amount of time are coming back negative then everything should be fine, although they did used to say that aids could still rear it's ugly head up to 10 years later..........you could always go with her for another test just to put your mind at ease & check out the accuracy of the 10 year statement still being in standing or not.

Why wait 8 months to tell you? well to be honest honey.....it's not something you'd want to blurt out easily is it, to just anyone....like you'd have to feel as though you really trusted someone before you divulged that kind of information........Although I have to say if you've both already entered into a sexual relationship then she should have told you before that happened. I would be kinda concerned that someone with-held that type of info from me til after sex had already occurred..............

You sound though as if you have a few trust issues with your "friend" & this is where the "why me" question can be answered......it's not a case of "why me" as that relays a thought that everything happening to you is out of your control....

"why me" should be replaced with "will I"
continue with this relationship I mean.only you know all the details so only you can really answer that question..........
