I had my first visit with the OB Nurse yesterday after being 7 weeks prego, have a question about tests? |
I am supposedly 7 weeks prego given that the date of my LMP was June 13th. I never got a period on July 13th. My cycle infact is more often on a 26 day schedule where my period comes about 4-5 days before the last month. So I did a test on the 12th with EPT First Response, that came positive around 12noon when i tested. Then i did another test on the 14th at night and it was positive again. Second time i tested, my positive lines showed up within 30 seconds!!! I found out that my urine dip stick test was fine and normal, as they check for sugar. It will take few days for the lab reports to come back on urine and blood. My first ultrasound is in 3 weeks. Is that the time I will know for sure I am having a baby? Has that ever been the case where a pregnancy is false and then the ultrasound is negative when the dr does it? I mean i have not had my period yet, i have the symptoms, and other than 2 at home pregnancy tests that say I am positive, I have no other way of knowing I am pregnant right? Are you sure that when they did your blood tests that they did not do a serum pregnancy test? This is a more sensitive test than urine and I think it can give an idea of how far along by the levels of HCG, also they probably did a pelvic exam which allows them to feel the size of the uterus. The at home test is over 99% accurate, that's why they don't feel the need to repeat at Dr. office. Their test measures the same HCH hormone with the same accuracy. I have been pregnant 4 times, the only time they confirmed pregnancy was my first when the home test said neg. even at 4 mo preg. but I know of no one who has gotten a false positive. Did the Dr. do a physical exam? The physical exam plus the urine test will tell them if your pregnant, obviously the Dr. saw no reason for this to be false if he's scheduling an ultrasound. Urine tests test for HcG My OB actually does a internal ultrasound on the first office visit. He just wants to confirm the number of babies inside. I only had one thank goodness! They most likely tested you, and didn't say anything. If they didn't...they had no questions, and they count on the ultrasound to confirm. at 7 weeks, they should be able to tell your uterus is larger just by feeling it through your tummy wall. Those are not SURE methods, but unless they ran a test by blood, they will most likely confirm at your ultrasound. Best wishes, and congrats! Blood Work, Blood work, blood work....that is your true pregnancy test and second the first ultrasound is at 7-8 weeks....Go to a REAL doctor's office if they didnt already do the blood work to confirm......but they also get their answer from the urine test...again if you dont feel comfortable where you went go somewhere else, these people will be with you for the next 9 months. Well when you went in for your appointment the first thing the doctor will have you do is pee in a cup before they order the lab work to be done. At that time the doctor already had done a test and is positive that you are pregnant. Most women experience morning sickness which can actually come in the afternoon or even in the night time and in some cases last all day long. Get extra fluids by drinking more water and eating more foods like fruit or vegetables. Congratulations on the baby hope all goes well for you Congratulations no doubt u are pregnant I have had 2 kids and I am pregnant. All of my Doctors have given urine test to confirm pregnancy. Yes some Dr.'s offices do blood work but not all of them. If your LMP is off, when you do the sonogram they will set your due date by the size of your uterus and the size of the baby. Congratulations! Oh yeah....ginger worked for me on sickness here is a link check it out! You should be talking to the doctor office that you went for your OB visit not Yahoo!!! I am sure that they did a urine pregnancy test while you were there. The only way they would mention it is if the test were negative. If you weren't actually pregnant then they would not have ordered and performed your blood work. It is normal for the nausea and vomiting to come and go as well. Count youself lucky. Some woomen never experience morning sickness while others experience it their entire pregnancy. You will be fine! Good luck |
