I don't know what Pelosi said about the surge but the terrorist problem is escalating in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The violence is escalating in Iraq. Saying the surge is a failure is probably not the correct assessment of what is going on.

The question is how long can we sustain all of the expense and people don't seem to want to think about that aspect of it. We have not begun to pay for the wars and sooner or later, there will be no choice but to decide on some less costly way to fight against terrorism. That fact has nothing to do with patriotism or supporting the troops. Its just a matter of dollars and cents.

Pelosi is beyond deranged and delusional. The Dems are invested in failure and will hate America until the day it becomes a 3rd world communist wasteland.

We all vote for our representatives in congress, I guess the nut jobs out there have to be represented too. Pelosi, along with Reid and others, have stated that the surge has been a failure based on the stated purpose of the surge, before it began, by GW himself. The purpose of the surge was two fold. First to control or eliminate the wide spread acts of violence, especially within Baghdad. In that respect the 175,000 US troops and over 100,000 contract troops have succeeded. The second purpose of the surge was to allow a 'window of security' needed in order for the Iraqi government to begin the political reforms needed in order to stop the civil war altogether. Almost no benchmarks have been met by the Iraqi government. The Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds remain as far apart and as hostile towards each other as ever. It is a fact that the US government has been paying both sides in Iraq to cease hostilities. But just how long do you think that will last? Not long.

So if you say the surge has 'worked' really means you are only half right at best.

I have little respect for the attitudes and policies of President Bush, yet I always refer to him as President Bush.

And for the last time, recognizing that our policy in Iraq is a failed one (unless you own stock in Halliburton) is NOT "not supporting the troops". Bringing them home safely from a falsely based, misguided, potentially catastrophic invasion is the best way to support them.
