Very sick kitty!? |
I have a female mixed cat that my husband and I adopted from the ASPCA.Before we adopted Marley, I asked them SEVERAL times if she was tested for feline AIDS and Leukemia, along with fip and fvip.I informed them that I have a older 20 yr. old kitty at home and do not want him to get ill, as he is negative.I was reassured that she was HEALTHY!Right after we got her, she began to sneeze. We brought her to our vet and was able to confirm our fears, Marley has FIP. She has tested negative, thank God, for feline AIDS and Leukemia. But since we've had her she gets sick, then gets better. We also found out that she has Hemobartonalia.Marley has been on antibodics for about 3 weeks. But one of the biggest mysteries is that her left eye continues to become inflamed.Marley has been put on serveral different eye meds and is currently on the oral antibodic, Baytal, and is also on eye antibodic and steroid, and takes asprin for high temp. as needed(alot)The vet is dumbfounded.PLEASE HELP! Not sure where you live but I would ask your vet to confer w/ someone at a vet school nearby or his/her old vet school. They have specialists there who will answer vet questions for free and when my little Murray Zeke the Speed Demon Kitty developed an unusual form of hypertropic cardiomyopathy and I wanted to consider a septal alcohol ablation, my vet and I conferred with the folks at the Cornell Vet school (where he went years ago) and those at the University of Florida vet school (near us) and a hosptial in Colorado that does these surgeries on people. They helped us a lot. Good luck w/ your little fella!! Also consider calling 1-800-dr-kitty. It's the Cornell vet school. I think they charge you $30 for a conference but it would be well worth it for your complicated question. Good luck and hugs to both kitties! what's the question? get another vet's opinion. Unless you want to risk the death of your other cat I would take this cat back to the ASPCA since obviously you were lied to. And they should pay for the bills of both cats. Cats don't usually pant, so if your cat is breathing quickly while he is resting, then something might be wrong. |
