STD and HIV blood draw? IMPORTANTT!!!!! ANSWER ASAP PLEASE?

Where are blood usually drawn for an STD/ HIV test?

and can it only be drawn once to find out for STDs and HIVs.. like can they use it for both?.. and is there a test for AIDs or is it with the STD and HIV?

since there is different types of STDs and HIVs.. does that mean theyre gonna keep taken blood from me or are they doing it all from the one time they take blood?

Hi -

There are different ways to test for HIV and other STDs. Blood may be drawn (usually from your arm) to check for HIV antibodies.

Other STDs like chlamydia or gonorhea are tested for by a swab (from your vagina or penis - I don't know if you're male or female). Other stds like herpes or genital warts can be identified by a visual check.

AIDS is identified after you have a positive HIV test. They check to see what your T cell count is (to check and see how healthy your immune system is) or see if you've had certain opportunistic infections. There is no single test to determine if someone has AIDS.

Hope that helps!

you can have it drawn at any lab, in a hospital or any pathology place, or if what you mean is just your arm...the test results are aquired the same but they need to run different labs on them, you can physically have one test, they can take more than one sample at the same time and then do what they want with it. if you are female and need std tests, they might want a papsmear which they cant do any other way than the way it sounds.

Most of the time for women, they just do a pap smear for STDs. This is usually the best way to detect them. They can do just one & test for a # of STDs. Make sure to ask for them to test for all STDs, otherwise a lot of clinics only test for the top 3 or 4 STDs in the area that you live in. I read about them developing a saliva HIV test, but I don't think that's used much yet. They took blood from me from my arm. They don't take much (waaay less that if you have ever donated blood). Sometimes HIV & STD tests can take a while for results to come back so expect a 1-2 week wait at most places.

Blood tests for STDs don't show all STDs. Genital warts, herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichinosis don't show up. But syphilis, Hepatitis B/C, HIV/AIDS do show up. And the blood is drawn from the arm if that is what you are asking.
