My CaT Has AIDS-He Had his Shots.ADVICE PLEASE!!!?

I`m sure he contacted it in a fight, acouple of years ago.I have 3 other cats.2 kittens, one who I just had neuterd,&came back with an awful virus.I now have them all on antibotics.I cannot afford to get them all tested. The others have not hadtheir shots againsrt this, is there any use since he had them & caught it? I need a way to treat my kitties myself, know where I can get antibotics etc, thru the internet?

Thanks to some.I love my kitties, they all are fixed, the last one caught a virus, while she was being fixed,(thru the humane society) that`s why they are all on antibotics., thats also how I found out my BABY had aids. (He got VERY sick.My 10yr old daughter is guilty of the other 3 lol.I`m sorry my question was diffucult to understand (upset).

Your post is VERY confusing.

What antibiotics can you get through the Internet?????? Many may not be effective against the URI.

FIV...(feline AIDS) is not spread as easily as FeLV. It takes a DEEP bite wound. They do not get it from casual contact or sharing food bowls. It is totally different from the URI issue.

And there is only ONE vaccine that covers FIV...the FIV vaccine. This is not a routine vaccine that most vets give. The efficacy of that vaccine has been in question since it has come out. One vaccinated with that vaccine, a cat will test positive on most tests, so it is hard to know if they have the disease or not. I doubt your cat was vaccinated for this, and most vets would not advise having your others vaccinated either.

**Really, most cats with FIV do not get many more infections than other cats. They can be very healthy for a LONG LONG time. I have a male that I fostered for that eventually stayed on here, and he has been FIV positive since 1999, and he was about 3-5 years old then. He has had no more problems than the others and has not passed it to any of the other cats. He is fed a good diet and stays inside. That is it. He has gotten a few URI's over the years, probably from another foster, but so have my other cats. He has gotten over it just as easily as the rest.
Rest assured, FIV is not a death sentence at all!!!!!!

I am sure with feline aids you can not keep any other animal with them.

Antibiotics do not treat viral infections. Your other cats are in serious danger. Until you can get them all tested, treated, and vaccinated, please quarantine the sick ones from the other cats. Contact your local Humane Society, because sometimes they can put you in touch with help for getting the needed veterinary care.

You need to talk to your vet. You paid for him to see the one cat, I think. So discuss with your vet what you can or cannot afford, and whether or not the immunizations help since the one cat got the Aids in spite of having it's immunizations.

There are online pharmacies, but for some things they require a vet prescription.

Also, if your vet is very expensive, you may need to get a more reasonable vet. In my area, some vets who deal with farmers and have a lot of farmers as customers are reasonably priced, while other vets in my area seem to think all their customers are rolling in money.

If you need to get things online, one good, reliable and reasonably priced pet supplier is below.

If your cats are neutered/ spayed, and do not fight with each other, you shouldn't have any problems. They can transmit the virus through saliva in the food bowl, but since they have been sharing all this time there is a good chance that infection, if it is going to happen, already has.

Keep all of your cats 100% indoors. This will stop them from encountering any illnesses from other cats and from spreading the FIV to others as well. Keep them well fed in a high quality food, and get them check ups when they seem under the weather.

I wouldn't get the vaccine if I were you. It can show a false positive on the test, which makes the test worthless as a diagnostic tool. You want to know if the FIV is making your kitties sick and you can't do that if the test is useless.

You should also contact some rescue groups in your area. They have been known to help owners of FIV cats with the vet bills, etc., associated with the disease. I wouldn't try to treat them yourself as this can be a very serious deal. Compromised immune systems open them up to all kinds of tricky illnesses that the average person just can't diagnose. Too many symptoms are similar across too many diseases.

Good luck.

well if one can not afford the medical treatments they should not have them and the vet is the best way to go like no doctor over the counter drugs should be given without the advice of a doctor.

Did your cat have the FIV vaccination? If he did and is showing positive on the test...it is probably the FIV vaccination...it is possible he does not have FIV. Although there is a vaccination now available, this is one of the reasons many vets are choosing not to recommend it.

If this is indeed a 'false' positive, your other cats will be fine. If he is truly FIV+, as long as he does not bite the other cats, they will be fine too.

Many years ago I rescued an adult intact male. I had no idea about FIV then. And why the vet I used did not recognized the telltale signs, I'll never know because I do not use that practice any longer. This cat was so sweet, gentle and timid and never had a confrontation with any of the other cats. When I learned he was FIV+ I panicked, too, but my vet said (and I have read) that FIV has to be passed by direct contact, mostly by a serious bite wound. It is not passed by casual contact..kitties can live, eat and sleep together just fine.

There is no real 'treating' a kitty with FIV. The main treatment is to provide as stress free environment as possible, feed a good healthy diet, keep them indoors to prevent secondary infections/illnesses/injuries since they have compromised immunity, and regular veterinary checks to stay ahead of any problems. FIV+ kitties can live for years symptom free.

As for the antibiotics, they are one of the lesser expensive medicines from a vet. Plus I doubt you can get them without a prescription which your vet would need to approve. When I was giving subq fluids to my cat in renal failure, I printed the internet price for the bags of fluids, needles and venosets and the vet met the price. This was the easiest way to do it and I didn't have to pay shipping and wait for delivery. Here is the company I used.

Hope this helps ease your worries.

Purrs to you and kitties.

FIV Is only transmitted through bite wounds and blood to blood contact. As long as your positive kitty is not aggressive towards your other kitties they should be fine. It is not transmitted water bowls or sharing food dishes. I had an FIV+ boy that lived for 6 years with my 2 other negative cats. They shared food and water bowls and even would play and wrestle together. I was just sure to keep softpaws on all the cats so that in playing they could not accidentally draw blood.

In terms of treatment, some cats are having good results with interferon (human HIV treatment). I never went this route with my cat. I just tried to keep him as happy and healthy as possible. One of the biggest problems with FIV is that it suppresses the immune system. This means your guy is more susceptible to viral and bacterial infections and will have a harder time defeating such infections. It is probably best that he stay strictly indoors to limit exposure to germs and so as not to spread FIV. Remember that while he may be perfectly friendly with your cats, he will fight unknown kitties in his territory.

Good luck and try not to stress over this disease. It is quite manageable. My kitty was positive for 9 years that we know of and eventually passed due to cancer (completely unrelated to FIV).

I am pretty certain that feline HIV positive and negative cats can live safely together. It's not all that easy to pass from cat to cat. Check this out on the internet, or ask your vet.

Antibiotics off the web. Not a good idea! However, exactly what are you trying to treat? A virus will not respond to antibiotics. As for a bacterial infection, you should be able to clear that up with a course of the right antibiotics and then be done with it.
