Blood Donor in the UK?

i recently went to give blood and upon reading the back it states that anyone who has had a transfusion since 1980 cannot give blood. Why is this? i am now paranoid that i have CJD as it was undetected then, i have also had a aids test due to this and it was negative thank God!

i have had 3 blood tranfusions since 1982 i forgot to add that...

I am a blood donor,the reason you cannot donate blood is because the blood transfusion service operates a failsafe attitude, to all new blood donors, this does not mean you cannot donate blood, it simply means you will be tested more rigourously than normal, its a combination of the aids epedemic and cjd, apparently only % 8 of the population can actually donate blood, and they need us desperately, get in touch with your local service, I am sure you will be accepted

I moved from the UK to Canada in 1987 and they won't take blood here now from anyone who lived in the UK during the 80"S.
They're afraid we may be carrying the human variety of Mad Cow disease. Might be the same there.

O.k....I'm confused by your statement in regards to your question.?
You say that you went to go donate blood and now you are afraid that you have CJD & HIV because of something that you read on the back of your questionnaire?
First off, there is absolutely no way to be infected with a blood born disease when you GIVE blood.
Receiving blood is a different story.
Yes, up until sometime this year, there was no blood test to test for CJD.
Really & truly, you have nothing to worry about. The chances of you having CJD is so low, it's not worth worring about.
