3 hr glucose tolerance test? |
I am 30 weeks pregnant and failed my glucose tolerance test with a 171. I always watch my diet, however had drank allot of kool aid recently. Anyway, a week later after I cut it out of my diet I went for a 3 hr blood glucose test. I had to fast for 12 hrs and out of all 4 draws they only told me the reading of the first draw. It was prior to drinking the glucola and was a 94. The tech said that was really good. The rest went to the lab and I should have the results in the next day or two. Anyway, being that the first reading was a 94 does that mean there is a higher probability that the rest are also below 135 or is there no correlation? - Thanks! No way at all to guess until you get the labs back. You may be able to do well during fast, but unable to handle the challenge of heavy glucose load. congrats on the baby! I am 37 weeks and also failed my first glucose test. I don't know that there is a higher chance that the rest of your labs will be normal, but having a fasting sugar within normal limits is a good sign. I was normal on the fasting draw and first draw and then a little high on the 2nd and 3rd after the glucola. My OB said this was probably more of a metabolism issue than an actual difficulty in processing glucose. He just had me increase activity after meals and avoid concentrated sweets. Good luck! congrats on the babe!!! Stay healthy!! |
