Driving test nerves help!?

Hi i have had 23 lessons and have booked my test, from now and untill my test it will have been 33 lessons which seems sucnificant, but i have a problem my test has been booked for 3wks now and its around 3 n a half weeks away. And my nerves have seemed 2 have kicked in already and i cant stop thinking abt it, i keep thinkig "o no i cant drive" etc.it all started after a reaccuring dream i keep getting, i have been doing everything my insturctor has said from reading the books to doing the cd rom so why am i panicking this early on? has anyone out there any ideas or any remedy aids that will help settle my nerves?

Dont worry about it. Treat your test as just another lesson.
Also whisper to yourself through the test about what the examiner is telling you to do. For example, if the examiner tells you to turn left then you say "ok, check mirrors, signal, give way to any traffic if I'm at a juction (or to the right if I'm on a round-about), then move off at a steady pace, check mirrors, signal off. Whispering to yourself through the test like that should help keep your nerves steady. It really helped me. Let me know how you get on. Good luck!

just think to yourself that "you can drive and there is no problem".

close your eyes and imagine yourself driving. or get lots of practice before hand

Eat beetroot 1-2 hours before test I read that it calms the nerves

drive defensively. if you're overcareful, you will NOT fail (why do you think 70+ year olds are still allowed to drive??). if you're overaggressive, you WILL fail.

Wow. You sound really worked up!!! You need a hobby or something to take your mind off it.

I have never ever heard of someone taking 33 driving lessons. That seems like a lot of time behind the wheel!! I'm sure with that kind of training you will be able to tell the instructor how to do it! LOL.

Just re-assure yourself that you will do fine. The test is so easy.

seeing that you've had a ridiculous amount of lessons, im sure you'll be fine...

i was nervous taking my test too, but i just told myself that its not a big deal and i know how to drive well

be confident

Hi I used to be a Driving Instructor and used to tell my nervous pupils to try either Calms or Easylife that are none drousy and available from most chemist's. But make sure you try them on a normal lesson first to see how they affect your driving don't just take them on the day of the test.
PS don't take any notice of the earlier posts 33 hrs is not a lot of lessons the average is 1 3/4 hrs for every year you are old so if you are 17/18 30 to 35 hrs is the norm.

this is actually normal. when i first started learning to drive, i was nervous as heck. it didn't help that my dad was the one teaching me to drive, as he had years of commercial driving experience behind him, and i was afraid i would disappoint him by failing my drivers test. i found that visualizing the thing that made me most nervous, and visualizing me doing it right, reduced my stress levels. in my case it was parallel parking. when i took my test, that was the first thing the examiner had me do. when i nailed that, the rest was a cake walk. the first thing to do is relax, figure out what is causing your nervousness and visualize yourself doing it right. you can do this. then you can go out and terrorize us old folks on the road(LOL).

same thing happened to me, what a nightmare that was! Kalms helped, but just try and not worry about it. and remember theres no hurry to pass, you can sit a million times. but you wont need to - cos you'll pass! :) Good Luck! x
