How do I deal with my friend, having AIDS?

He got drunk, and he hooked up with screwed some girl tw...then he got himself into a brawl, cause the girls ex boyfriend got pissed. The problem is that when he got himself tested, the doctors told him that AIDS...He's not sure if its from the girl, or if it was from the guy...AIDS as you all know can also be sent by blood...so maybe he had a cut on his hand or something and when he hit the guy he got some of his blood on him....the point is, he's my bestfriend, and he only has like 6 to 7 months left to live...I- I don't know how to deal with it....someone help me out please

I have many members of my family who had HIV/Aids and passed on, I have learned that the best way to deal with such problems is to be LOVING and accepting the situation rather than being distant. Give encouragement , just be the friend that u hav always been and more. it's not easy for him and I am sure for you but you have to be strong for him .

do everything you can in Good faith after all he was your good friend - he needs you in his last hours - just make sure to cheer him up and every now and then with new surprises - give him activities like Indoor Games, Sudoku and outside parties - ask him to enjoy himself as long as he can and live on medicines prescribed by Doctor - reassure him by saying that if he has a positive willpower to live - he may live longer than the prescribed time-period say 6 months - tell him, it's not exact - he may live much longer than that with a positive and undying spirit. Give him examples of Lance Armstrong who fought colorectal cancer to spring to becoming the Number One Athlete - he needs to have posters of people like Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods, and all those positive people who FOUGHT in their lives - anything that increases his motivation to live.

All the same, if I were in your place, I would make sure I don't come in contact with his cuts and wounds - and if I were that AIDS patient, I would be understanding enough why my friend wants to maintain distance in some areas -

I'm guessing this happened quite a long time ago because with today's medications and treatment packages, it takes years for someone to die from the AIDS virus. I'm very sorry for your friend, and for you. There are many support groups out there for people with AIDS, and friends/family of that person. If you google your area for 'AIDS SUPPORT GROUP', I'm hoping you find something. I wish you the best...be strong for your friend and his family, but take care of yourself too. Talk to your family, that's a great source of support as well. Good luck

As for the 'how'. Extremely doubtful it came from the fight, more likely it came from the girl. Your friend should have already contacted the girl and told her to get tested. It's the law in most states now that at least an attempt be made to contact past lovers etc..

I guess the main thing is to be supportive and be there for him when he needs you. It's a horrible thing to lose a friend and I'm sorry this happened. Just make it known that you do not judge him for getting AIDS (by the way it was probably from the girl) and just spend alot of time with him. That way when he does pass you will not feel guilty for not saying anything you wanted to say or doing something you didnt do.

Dealling with a loved ones news that they are HIV positive can be very hard and confusing.
You have to understand one thing though. None of these people decided to wake up in the morning and go and contract the disease. That means that it can happen to anyone.
Here is what you can do for your friend. He needs you now more than ever. You have to stand by him. I know it can be very attempting to just walk away and assume you were never friends but dont do it. I would advise you to go with him to some of his counseling sessions to better understand a few aspects of the disease. The more you know about the condition the better you will be equiped to care for him.
Sometimes he will feel like just giving up on life completely. This is when you will be needed most. To reassure him that its not the end of the world and that with treatment and positive living he can absolutely live a normal life.
