Maybe if there was mandatory testing, the infection rate would decrease. Too many people out there are infected and don't even know it. It puts the rest of us at risk.

I support mandatory testing. I can't single out one risk group because we are all at risk. There is no longer just one or two groups that have the highest risk factor. HIV infection is spreading most rapidly now in the heterosexual group.

Due to the nature of my job (healthcare), I get tested every 3 months. I protect myself and do not take unnecessary risks. It's something we should all think about.

One very good example is if a healthcare worker got accidentally stuck by a contaminated needle with body fluid on it from someone. That person has a right to know, so they can begin treatment right away. And that person also has a right to claim benefits from any harm occuring to them because of that needle stick. Nothing upsets me more than a person infected with AIDS thinking their right to privacy is more important than my right to health. And yes, even though we use universal precautions with every patient, if I know someone has AIDS or HIV, I am EXTRA careful, and so are my co-workers. We move a little slower with our needles! So, in light of that, I'll say, that the person has a contagious illness, and should be held accountable for with holding information that could affect my health, should I become infected because of not being informed. If someone has TB, meningitis, there is not as much talk about 'rights' but if someone has AIDS, there is always talk about their right to privacy. Well, I'm all about that, but also about protecting innocent people that risk their lives taking care of them. (Including fire rescue, paramedics, and police officers!!!!)
