What is it like being tested for AIDS?

What do they have you do? Paperwork, weighing you, drawing blood?

How long does it usually take to get results? I've read different things.

Thank you!

Please disregard the first answer, Obviously the first person has never been tested. There are many ways to go about being tested you can go to your physician and get a test done which is very confidential and they do make you sign a paper to have you agree to let them test your blood for HIV/AIDS it is a blood drawing test most likely at your physicians lab, but there are other ways to get the test done there is a oral swab they can do, and also a finger stick you can do. Now the oral swab and the finger prick you get your results back in 20 minutes and the blood drawing test can take between 1 and 5 days to get the results back. The test are painless, your information is totally confidential (even at your doctors office) and it's very comforting to know the results of the test. Now I also must add if you go somewhere like a AIDS resource center or something like that they give you free condoms and you don't even have to give your name you just make up a number and that's the number you give to get the results. It's also recommended you get tested every 6months to a year, every three months if you have been having very risky sexual activity. I hope this helped you out, and don't worry the process is painless and the people are more than willing to do anything to keep you comfortable.

they draw your blood. The technician does these things every day and is not upset that you are getting tested. They say byebye--- and give you results in a month and may test you again in a month.

I have personally had the test done and all they did was draw my blood. End of story.

When I got my results, that was a different story. I tested positive. Shock. Horror. My doctor offered me counselling and referred me to the sexual health clinic where they were properly equipped for my situation.

Don't stress because if you get yourself worked up, it will only make the waiting worse for you.
