Do u think i have AIDS?

i had sex yesterday with a prostitute. I used condoms. the condom was given by that girl fresly opened. Not sure the quality of the product. Now i am scared that will i get AIDS or not.

1. What is the minimum duration for testing for AIDS

Once HIV enters the body, the immune system starts to produce antibodies 鈥?(chemicals that are part of the immune system that recognize invaders like bacteria and viruses and mobilize the body's attempt to fight infection). In the case of HIV, these antibodies cannot fight off the infection, but their presence is used to tell whether a person has HIV in his or her body. In other words, most HIV tests look for the HIV antibodies rather than looking for HIV itself. There are tests that look for HIV's genetic material directly, but these are not in widespread use.

The most common HIV tests use blood to detect HIV infection. Tests using saliva or urine are also available. Some tests take a few days for results, but rapid HIV tests can give results in about 20 minutes. All positive HIV tests must be followed up by another test to confirm the positive result. Results of this confirmatory test can take a few days to a few weeks.

There is a link below so you can find a clinic close to you good luck. Next time don't go for a prositute

Youre deadmeat!!!

that's lovely. I'd say go to the doctors and have a blood test. Rather be safe and know.. then worry and be unsure. You never know.

If it were freshly opened, it should have new. I doubt that a prostitute would be rolling up and reusing condoms.

You're probably safe. But to be safe in the future, don't pay for it and bring your own protection.

No you don't have aids, but HIV is possible. AIDS comes later. Go get tested and stay away from prostitutes

Um. Ignorance abounds here in these responses. To begin with, there's nothing wrong with hiring a sex-worker, most of them are health conscious since their bodies are their line of work. If you are going to hire a sex-worker, or have sex with anybody who you do not know, then you should be making sure you use condoms, which you did, so good for you! Heterosexual transmission of HIV from female to male is very difficult, and next to impossible when a condom is used. Fluid exchange from the inside of a woman's body to the inside of a man's body is extremely difficult (this may seem obvious but kissing, ie, saliva doesn't carry any risk of transmission unless one of you is infected and have cuts in your mouths) and would pretty much have to be done purposefully, so if you were wearing a condom the entire time you had insertive sex, there's virtually no risk.

To answer the second concern: the minimum duration for HIV testing depends on the testing technology being used. If you live in an area that has relatively modern technologies, then they have a window of a couple weeks, older tests take sometimes three months to show antibody results.
For future reference, if you think you've had a genuine exposure to HIV then you should check your local health clinic or hospital to see if they carry Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) pills. If taken within 48 hours of exposure you can possibly avoid infection (it involves taking AIDS medications for about a month to beat the would-be-virus out of existence).

Here's a link to a forum from SF City Clinic on HIV/AIDS that answer a lot of the questions you might have.

To be sure, wait a month then go to test.
