How do doctors test for STDs?

Me and my friends are getting together to get tested for AIDS and STDs. Everyone should. How are the tests done?

It's so important to be proactive in your own health and well being....good for you and your friends! :)

Okay....to test for AIDS, the doctor will take a blood sample and have you sign a consent form. To check for STDs, you'll need a pelvic exam and the doctor will swab your vagina with a big q-tip. It's not painful and only takes a second. That's it! :)

blood work! Means you will have blood drawn & sent to a lab.

Your doctor will take blood to check for HIV and syphillus. To check for other STDs, the doctor will take a swab from your vagina.

HIV tests are pretty simple.
You just go in there, they draw blood, send it to a lab, and you get your results back. Hopefully they're good.

blood test or pap smears

There are so many STDs out there. But the tests are the following:
1. Visual--See if they notice any masses or outbreaks for Herpes or Warts
2. Cervical Swab/Sample--Gonorrhea and Chlamydia
3. Blood Sample-- HIV

For 1 and 2 they will put you on a table for a regular pap, it does not hurt.

Just be sure to tell the Dr if you have noticed any lumps, bumps, abnormal discharge, odor, itching, or if the other person involved to you they had something.

If you come back positive for #2 it is treatable and can be cured.
