What happens is a service member contracts AIDS or whatever while they are in service?

Are they discharged? I know they test you for AIDS before you are allowed into the service, and if you do have AIDS you are disqualified from joining. What happens about those people who are in the military and get it after they are in the service? Do they expect their service men and women to ask their partners to get a blood test for AIDS before every deed or what?

You don't contract AIDS, you contract HIV and that later becomes AIDS.
When an active duty member contracts HIV they are given the option to seperate. When they choose to seperate they will recieve VA benefits until they pass.
As for asking to get tested....if I was sexually active I would ask. HIV/AIDS isn't the only STD out there.

How about just wearing a condom....

Although very poorly worded and packed full of spelling and grammatical errors I will answer your question for the purpose of education.

It depends. While I was in the AF (93-2001), a member who contracted the HIV virus (b/c you do not get tested for AIDS or contract AIDS, you get tested for the HIV virus which causes a myriad of diseases cumulatively known as AIDS) was discharged. Service members in the AF are tested for HIV prior to entering service and prior to any deployment.

Now I have a friend who is a JAG in the USCG and she has indicated that the CG is not discharging service members who are HIV positive.

However, being HIV positive would seemingly make someone ineligible for worldwide service and field service just for the simple fact of the multitude of medications most HIV+ persons take to stave off the viruses advances.

As far as partners, yes if you are not sure if you are in a monogamous relationship then you should get tested and use condoms until the results of such tests are confirmed (keeping in mind that HIV can go undetected for up to 6 months from the time that it is transmitted).

While working on my clinicals for Paramedic in Hawaii, I had the pleasure of working the AIDS ward at Tripler Army Medical Center. All 4 branches use this hospital mind you, so there were Solders, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. You are allowed to remain in service having the AIDS virus or HIV. If you aren't incompacitated then you will maintain a job just like you did beforehand. You are however restricted to jobs in certain areas. You will not be in a combat MOS, nor any of the medical field for obvious reasons. Once you have gotten to the point that you can't work anymore, you will be considered on active duty until you die in a military hospital or a VA hospital if it is closer to your home of record and request to be sent there. By the way, we are tested yearly for AIDS.
