How long before you can be tested for aids?

ive slept with a good friend of mine but have been hearing things about his sexual history,ive heard that aids does not comeup on a blood test untill 2months later,is this correct?and why?

It is recommended to be tested 3 months afterwards. This is because nothing will show up until then.
The test doesn't actually detect the virus itself, it detects anti-bodies produced by your body to try to fight the virus off, these anti-bodies usually take 3 months to materialise, but can take up to 6 months.
So if you are concerned go for a test in 3 months time, and if it's negative but you're still worried go for another in 6 months time.

i've always been told that it could take up to five years before it will show up but u can always go and get tested to see....i know they tested me when i got pregnant and i asked and the nurse said to me it was to see if i had it right then....but if u are that worried then go get tested and if the test say's no then next year go get tested again....at least it would put u at ease to know if u do or not...instead of worring yourself to death over it.....good luck...

the accuracy rate is higher the longer you wait to have a test. Usually at 6 months, the accuracy rate is 90% or better. At 2 months, I think it has about a 50-60% chance of showing up.
This is how some people get tested a month after they were infected and it didn't show up, yet they had it and had already passed it to someone else.
Sometimes it takes up to 10 years for PHYSICAL symptoms to show up, like fatigue, but you can get a 90-99% accurate test in 6 months.
It's kind of like a pregnancy test as far as accuracy goes. The longer you wait after being exposed, the darker the line will be.
