AIDS in white blood count for blood and urines??

I recently was in the ER. I had a UTI that spread to my kidneys. They said that my white blood cells in my urine were very high and meant even after antibios the infection is there. ANYWAY... if I would have gotten AIDS from a partner 2 and 1/2 years ago, that blood count would be quite low correct? I also had complete wiorkup including any internal viral problems I could have due to my symptoms that nite just in case somehting like mono was present., everything was normal in my labs. So is that a good thing in the sense that I can stop driving myself crazy about this mistake I made over 2 years ago? With all the commercial/ads to keep ppl safe it is hard to not constantly think about it. When I went to my gyno 2 months ago for my annual my pap was normal, they are required to ask if I want an AIDS test and I asked her if she thought I needed one and she said she isnt concerned for me w/ my history, but its still my choice. So should I just put my mind at ease and let this go?

No, HIV infection cannot usually be detected on a normal white cell count: the cell count that is low in HIV disease is a specific type of cell, and this won't usually be detectable on a full blood count. There are no reliable "back door" ways of testing for HIV - you have to do a proper HIV test to know for sure.

It sounds like you are extremely anxious about having an HIV test. This is very common. It might be worthwhile sitting down with an HIV test counselor to see whether you do have any particular reason to be concerned, and what is the best way of resolving your anxiety. If you contact your local STI or genito urinary medicine clinic they will usually have such counselors.

Get an AIDS test. Unfortunatlly the "incubation" period of the virus is 18 months to 10 years!!! Which means it could take up to 10 years to find out.

Get tested. The test looks for antibodies that your immune system tries to produce in order to fight the virus. The antibodies can be detected in as little as 2 months, but it usually takes 6 months. Many people live for many years without symptoms before it becomes AIDS.
