Question about aids testing? |
I'm getting married soon, and wanted to get tested to make sure I don't have aids. I wasn't one of the girls to sleep around in h.s. but I was raped in college (once). since I don't remember much, I want to make sure that I am safe to be with my husband to be. so our planned parnehood is closed today, but I plan on calling them on mon. and can hopefully get in with them next week for all proper testing. OH! and how much do aids testing usually cost from planned parnethood?? Ok, this is how it works: Lets say you got raped a few days ago, you could take the exam and have the results within 15-30 min..but they wouldn't be 100% accurate as it takes around 30 days for the virus to settle. Since you said you were abused a few years ago, if you take the exam now, it will be accurate. The one i took i only had to wait a few minutes...maybe 15-30 min... It is mandatory that you get tested for HIV before getting married. It usually takes two weeks to get the results back. Tests are available from Planned Parenthood health centers and most physicians, hospitals, and health clinics. Local, state, and federal health departments offer free testing. Call this number 1-800-922-2437 and ask for a clinic in your area that does rapid testing---you can get your results in 20 minutes and it's 98% accurate and it's FDA approved Its not mandatory to have HIV testing in many states anymore but it is a good idea. And you may also check with your local health department, they often offer HIV and std testing as well. And depending on the test, you can get preliminary results in 20 minutes with the orasure test, but any positives must be rechecked and usually take 10-14 business days (as in weekends don't count) |
