Do they test for aids in the blood they take be4 u have surgery???????

let me kno

IM NOT WORRY BOUT IF I HAVE IT...I JUS WANNA KNO IF THEY DI JUS IN CASE

No, they do not.
Doctors etc will not test your blood for HIV/AIDS unless you specifically ask them too. Just like they wouldn't test you for other things (eg pregnancy, diabetes) unless either you/they thought it was relevant.

I was under the impression that they couldn't test the blood without your consent.

If you are worried because you are positive, I would be more worried about having surgery with the HIV condition. You put yourself at risk anytime you have procedures. You should only have things done if there is no alternative.

If you are just worried that there is a possibility that you are positive and don't want someone finding out, then I would recommend taking an HIV test before your surgery. At the drug store they have these tests you can do your self and mail in for results. They cost about 50 bucks and they are anonymous and accurate.

Then you can make your decision on the surgery based on knowledge of your own health. Knowledge is power when it comes to making decisions of your health. Having an HIV test is one of the most scary things someone can go through in my opinion. It doesn't matter if you have had 1 or 50 partners, there is always the possibility that you could be infected.

Good luck!

They don't. HIV testing needs a special consent and doctors and nurses should be equally as careful in all surgeries to prevent getting infections from patients. The only way they would test you is if a healthcare worker was accidentally exposed to your body fluids (needle stick, blood in eyes...). Even then they would ask you for a special consent.

yes all blood is tested before it is used in surgary due to not wanting to give some one a disease and then being sued for not being careful;

No they don't. A doctor always has to have your consent in order to give an hiv test.

Yes, they do! If its already detected then it will be in your medical file.

No they don't

I AM A NURSE PRACTITIONER AND THE ANSWER IS NO! LEGALLY YOU CANNOT BE TESTED FOR HIV/AIDS WITHOUT SIGNING A CONSENT FORM . THEY MAY OR MAY NOT ASK YOU TO DO THIS PRIOR TO SURGERY. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS IF YOU DONATE BLOOD- BLOOD BANKS ARE REQUIRED TO TEST BLOOD FOR HIV/AIDS AND WHEN YOU DONATE BLOOD YOU ARE CONSENTING TO THIS. I THINK THE WRITER WAS ASKING ABOUT IF THEY TEST IT IN ROUTINE LABS AND UNLESS YOU ARE DONATING BLOOD TO GO TO SOMEONE ELSE, THEY CANNOT LEGALLY TEST YOU FOR HIV/AIDS WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT.
