When you have a baby do they test for aids? |
When you have a baby do they test for aids? if there's any reason to, yes. Not unless they have reason to believe they need to. yes, it's mandatory in most places Yes, always. Or at least both my OBs have. (by the way...I'm hardly "at risk"...I've been married for 11 years. Depends. Most Dr's offices will offer the test but you have to sign a paper in order for the test to be done. My 1st OBGYN asked if i wanted it done and i said no so it didn't get done but the 2nd OBGYN was at a clinic and it was clinic policy that every patient be tested for HIV. Some counties here in Ohio will actually take custody of any baby born to a mother with HIV+ the day the baby is born. When ever you go to a OBGYN you need to ask what tests they will be running. Some have it as policy and others have it as an option. Yes. I think most clinics require a aids test be done. But I do believe they do have to have your written consent before they can do the test though. Depends... Most do. You can request it or not in any case. I know when you find out you are pregnant and they take your blood and do tests they will ask if you want an HIV/Aids test done and if you do then you sign a release form. depending on the state it can be mandatory but most states offer the test Yep. Some of the prenatal tests you go through are more thorough than any physical you'll ever have! It depends on where you live. In Texas it is mandatory. They test at least when you go in for delivery, if not sooner. It is important because in the odd chance that someone is positive then they can give the woman AZT to help dramatically decrease the chance for the baby to get AIDS. |
