Why do AIDS blood test results take so long to come back?

it takes 2 weeks, why? does it take a while for the AIDs to show up in the sample or is it because theres a lot of people having theirs tested too and it takes a while to get through them all?

I think you will find some places give results in 24 hours.if a test is positive they send it away for another different test,some peoples blood can react to the testing aswell.

It depends on what type of facility does the test and what test that is performed. At my hospital we have a rapid HIV test but if it is positive, blood is send to another facility for confirmatory testing called western blot. These are highly complex tests and very time consuming. Most facilities that perform them do so in batches...which means they may wait a few days or once a week to perform them. This saves reagents and cost.
