Blood test and AIDs?

If a Doctor does a blood test & looks at several things would they be able to see if the patient had AIDS without specifically looking for it, or is that impossible?

NOt directly (unless an HIV Antbody Test, p24antigen test, or HIV-RNA viral load -- all of which are specific HIV tests.

However, if your doctor took a close look at your white blood cells and checked your CD4 cell count and found it to be low, that is an indicator of immune dysfuntion which could be caused by many disease, including HIV disease.

Now you talk about AIDS...AIDS is actually the final stage of HIV disease. One of the hallmarks of an AIDS diagnosis is the presence of severe immune dysfunction and the poresence of opportunistic infections which once diagnosed often lead to a diagnosis of being HIV+ and having AIDS.

To respond to kevin(?). An HIV+ person has no responsibility (legal or otherwise) to inform any of their healthcare practitioners about their serostatus (though it would be better if they did to ensure better treatment). Healthcare workers are trained to use UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS for ALL patients. When they do this, there is no reason they need to know because they treat everyone the same to protect both themselves and the patient.

Hope this helps

No, they need to do a specific test to look for it.

they would have to test for the antibodies of hiv. when you get a blood test for everything else, just ask them to add an hiv antibody test to the series.

It would be very selfish to expose those doing the testing to such a harmful virus without warning them the possibility existed.
Dr's are now better able to diagnose as they have nearly 30 years of experience with HIV so even if the test was not for HIV it is likely they will make an educated guess as to the problem. Best ask a doctor

if other viral tests were conducted, it may be possible. apart from that, no test for it, no result for it.

they are looking for certain cells that are being piggybacked by the bad cells, so it is possible to see that

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is difficult to pass from person to person. It is not very infectious and is almost impossible to get through normal social interaction.

Normally in this day and age some doctors test for HIV as standard. If you think you may have HIV the i would recommend getting tested. Some of the symptoms of HIV are getting illnesses easily eg colds, infections, thrush and general feeling of being run down.

No its a specific test for the virus.

no you have to have a test for aids in particular
