Why do they do an aids test with a rape kit, when aids won't show up for 6 months?

I have heard/read that they do an AIDS test with a rape kit after a woman is raped. What is the point of doing that when AIDS won't show up till 6 months later?

To establish whether or not she is HIV positive at the time of the assault.

Well, they will repeat the test or suggest she have it repeated. Some people do have it show up sooner than 6 mos, though, but it does take time. If she already has HIV already.though there's no point in repeating the test.

if she is positive then it could narrow down the number of suspects. the suspect could have aids.

To see if the she had it before the rape, so when they do a test later on... they won't assume its AIDS from the raper.

To see if you had AIDS before you got raped. hmmmmmmm. Then they will do another test every 3 months while keeping you on this preventative medicine
